Last year, LifeMoves returned over 2,000 people to housing and stability for 86% of families and 67% of individuals who engaged in their programs. With 26 interim housing communities and support services from Daly City to San Jose, LifeMoves provides its neighbors experiencing homelessness a temporary place to call home while providing intensive, customized case management through both site-based programs and community outreach that teaches and reinforces skills that clients need to return to and sustain stable housing. Position Purpose LifeMoves' Homeless Outreach Teams are organized into regions within San Mateo County. Dispatch Services are part of HOT Region 4, (which includes Menlo Park, East Palo Alto) but are responsible for receiving and dispatching requests to other Outreach teams throughout the county. Essential Job Responsibilities The Dispatch Worker serves as a primary contact between local government agencies, community service providers, LifeMoves Homeless Outreach Teams, and community partners that also have Outreach programs. The Dispatch Worker ensures that all requests received through HOME App, emails, and calls are routed to the appropriate team in each region. Requests include non-urgent calls for Outreach and Engagement, or urgent Rapid Response calls. Additionally, the Dispatcher coordinates Family Verification requests, which are in-person visits to help families get added to shelter waiting lists through enrollment in the county's Coordinated Entry Services. The current opening is for a Dispatch Worker that will help expand services into later hours, from 1:30 pm to 10 pm. This position will distribute outreach requests, Rapid Responses, and Family Verifications to our night Outreach Specialists that are in the community until 10:30 pm. The night Dispatch Worker will also provide support in the field/community and as needed to respond to requests and Family Verifications in a timely manner. Main job duties will include:
- Monitor requests received through apps, emails, calls related to requests for services.
- Respond to requests for services. This can include:
- requests for outreach and engagement of unhoused individuals or families.
- requests for Rapid Responses which require a quicker response time.
- Ensure that all requests are assigned to the appropriate regional teams
- Coordinate with San Mateo County staff to maintain dispatch services
- Meetings (in person and online, as required) with LifeMoves Staff, County staff, Service providers, and others.
- Attend all mandatory trainings.
- Offer training and presentations to stakeholders on the work of dispatch and how to access Outreach services.
- Maintain accurate data in all dispatch related systems.
- Work closely with the daytime Dispatcher and Program Director to expand and improve the role of Dispatcher within Outreach Services. This will include:
- Collaborate with County staff to learn, use and provide feedback on the Outreach application (HOME App).
- Improving the workflow of voice, email and app requests to improve response times.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology or related field, with a minimum of two years' case management experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proven ability to collaborate with community partners
- Understanding of the issues faced by homeless individuals and other marginalized populations in crisis
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Experience working with mentally ill and dually diagnosed clients highly desirable.
- An understanding of ideas and practices that promote diversity, equity and inclusion; and a commitment to ongoing professional development in this area.
- Bi-lingual Spanish language capabilities a plus.
