Outside Plant FielderThe Outside Plant Fielder works primarily in the field with some subsequent time in the office focused on administrative tasks as required by project leadership. Main responsibilities include recording relevant data by identifying, measuring, and logging existing utility markings, and taking/labeling photos of all existing field conditions for aerial and buried fiber optic facilities and other underground/aerial utilities. When not verifying items in the field, the Outside Plant Fielder will assist the Engineering team with design and ArcGIS quality control.   • Collect information regarding utility pole identification, inspection, and classification;
  • Locate and identify existing underground structures in the field;
  • Interpret documentation and properly describe OSP/ISP telecom industry structures, public right-of-way, private easements, existing utilities such as water, sewer, electric, gas, and other underground and aerial utilities.
  • Take pictures of relevant structures and landmarks to assist OSP Engineering.
  • Open hand holes to inspect facilities (substructure conditions, fiber placement, and condition).
  • Document and upload information regarding findings in the field using a GIS technology, preferably ArcGIS or Google Earth
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 5 years of related work experience; fiber optic or construction experience and/or training preferred;
  • High school diploma or GED
  • The ability to read understand, interpret, input, and analyze utility and telecommunications data with a high degree of accuracy and completeness.
  • The ability to perform independently with minimal supervision, exercising latitude to achieve daily objectives;
  • The ability to perform manual tasks requiring frequent walking, stooping, crouching, reaching, lifting, digging, pushing and pulling.
  • The ability to work seated at a table for extended periods;
  • The ability to work safely, with or without supervision;
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and effective in multi-tasking;
  • Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal and analytical skills, exceptional critical thinking ability.
