Job DetailsJob Location South Congress Hotel - Austin, TX Position Type Full Time Salary Range $18.00 - $22.00 Hourly Job Shift Overnight Job Category Restaurant-Food Service DescriptionSOUTH CONGRESS HOTEL is hiring for an OVERNIGHT BAKER The living room for the neighborhood, South Congress Hotel is an 83-room boutique hotel designed to be a hub of activity for the community. A place for travelers and locals alike, the hotel has three restaurants, a coffee + bakeshop, rooftop pool, award-winning Lobby Bar, and two retail spaces, in addition to a range of community events + programming open to all. All locally owned, all right at the doorstep of Austin's favorite street. JOB SUMMARY A Pastry Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking dishes promptly and consistently, adhering to the outlet's recipes and procedures while maintaining Health Department standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS + RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos, and verbal instruction
- Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure safe, sanitary food-handling practices
- Prepare and cook dishes promptly and consistently, adhering to the outlet's recipes and procedures
- Ensure the cleanliness and proper sanitization of work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware
- Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage
- Carry food supplies, equipment, and utensils to and from storage and work areas
- Assist in the restocking and replenishing of supplies
- Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes, using various kitchen utensils and equipment
- Portion, arrange, and garnish pastry items
- Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare them for consumption
- Observe and test food items to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, temping, or piercing them with utensils
- Estimate expected food consumption, requisition or purchase supplies, or procure food from storage
- Assist in the development and implementation of special projects
- Maintain a positive relationship with all employees and guests
- Ensure open lines of communication with all departments and upper management at all times via email, logbooks, meetings, etc., to ensure all needs of the outlet are met
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety in the work area
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working condition; Regulate temperature as needed
- Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the property
- Keep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirements
- Attend relevant meetings as directed
