Part-time position can include up to 22 hours per week. This position is NOT eligible for Veteran's Preference.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION

Assists in developing and implementing diverse programs and daily activities (recreation; senior programs/therapeutic recreation; and/or wellness, fitness & athletics) for all ages.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Welcomes visitors and answers visitor questions and inquiries. Notifies visitor of activity schedules and registration requirements.

2. Facilitates/leads programs and daily activities. Monitors spectators and participants at programs and activities to ensure orderly conduct. Keeps attendance, inventory, and expenditure records for programs and activities.

3. Receives, stores, and equipment, gear, and other recreational supplies. Cleans and maintains equipment, gear, and other recreational supplies.

4. Assists in the evaluation of programs and makes recommendations for modifications and improvements.

5. Conducts basic maintenance tasks at a community center or other recreation facilities.

6. Arranges chairs, tables, and sporting or exercise equipment in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled group activities such as banquets, wedding receptions, parties, group meetings, or sports events.

7. Markets programs, events, and activities through contacts, individuals, businesses, and organizations to obtain sponsors and funding to supplement the General Budget. Networks with outside agencies, committees, boards, and related organizations to establish contacts with the community.

8. Provides support for department special events before, during, and after the event in the areas and for functions relative to essential job duties and/or otherwise assigned.

Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or equivalent to four years high school, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 2 years related experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Florida Operators Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and a learning permit for a CDL license before the first day of work. Must obtain a valid Florida commercial driver's license, CDL Class C, within 6 months of employment.

Must obtain First Aid & CPR certifications within 6 months of employment.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

* Recreation Leader - Certified Parks & Recreation Professional.

* Senior Programs/Therapeutic Recreation - Certified Parks & Recreation Professional or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

* Wellness, Fitness & Athletics - Certifications in wellness, nutrition, health coaching, and/or personal training.

Areas supervised by this position include Wellness, Fitness & Athletics within a recreation center. Non-supervisory employees supervised by this position include: Rec Aides (1-3 positions) and volunteers (numbers may vary).

Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

ACCURACY

Probable errors of internal scope should ordinarily be detected within the department or office in which they occur, but may affect the work of others within the unit, requiring additional expenditure of time to trace errors and make all necessary corrections. Errors would require a minimal amount of time to correct.

PUBLIC CONTACT

Regular contacts with patrons, either within the office or in the field. May also involve occasional self-initiated contacts to patrons. Lack of tact and judgment may result in a limited type of problem for the organization.

All contributions to the 401a Defined contribution plan are pre-tax and earnings grow tax-deferred. The City contributes 8% and employees contribute 3%. City contributions are 100% vested after one year of employment. You will be enrolled automatically and should take time to review your investment options at your earliest convenience.

Training Programs

The City is committed to provide training programs for all departments and all positions. Risk Management conducts classes in Defensive Driving, Safety, and Insurance. With rare exceptions, classes are offered during working hours, and are open to all eligible employees.
