What You Will Do The Experimental Device Engineering and Assembly Group (E-5) is Los Alamos National Laboratory's (LANL) premier engineering organization focused on expert assembly of experimental weapon test devices. E-5 integrates a team of highly skilled and motivated engineers, technicians, parts management specialists, hazardous materials transportation specialists, and operations specialists to deliver high-quality assemblies meeting customer requirements safely and securely. E-5 is also focused on supporting multiple experimental and R&D programs at LANL and external government agencies. E-5 is currently seeking a highly motivated subject matter expert packaging specialist to assist with the packaging and transportation team with onsite shipments, offsite shipments, incoming shipments, intern hazard classifications (IHC's), hazard analysis reports (HAR's), and special projects. This position will require strong communication skills, excellent time management, clear initiative, and the ability to coordinate and communicate with programs and customers. The selected candidate will work closely with management, assembly personnel, weapons system engineering personnel, universities, and other national laboratories.

- Experience interacting professionally with all levels of personnel, including external interfaces and management with the ability to build rapport at all levels.
- Expert level knowledge of federal, state and local Nuclear Material, other Hazardous Materials and/or Classified Matter standards and regulations
- Expert level knowledge in generating the necessary documentation (IHC's) for transfers of material within the Los Alamos National Laboratory Complex and other national laboratories to successfully complete the transfer of unapproved explosives.
- Expert knowledge of Laboratory conduct of maintenance, conduct of engineering, conduct of operations, and quality assurance programs as they apply to management, disposition, coordination, packaging, movement, storage, quality control and/or transportation of Nuclear Material, Explosives, other Hazardous Materials, and/or Classified Matter.
- Demonstrated expert skill in researching, and recommending alternative solutions to problems associated with the management, disposition, coordination, packaging, movement, storage, quality control and/or transportation of Nuclear Material, Explosives, other Hazardous Material, and/or Classified Matter.
- Subject matter expert responsible for ensuring management, disposition, coordination, packaging, movement, storage, quality control and/or shipment of Nuclear Material, Explosives, other hazardous materials, and/or classified matter occur in accordance with all federal, state and local regulations.
- Subject matter expert in assessment activities related to the management, disposition, coordination, packaging, movement, storage quality control and/or transportation of Nuclear Materials, other hazardous materials, and/or classified matter.
Collaboration - Proven success working independently and as a contributing member of a team; being able to interact effectively with all levels of personnel-building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts. Working knowledge in business operations across a large business environment.
Computing/Business Systems - Advanced computer skills and demonstrated experience with Inventory Control, Material Tracking systems, and various software suites-including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), etc.
Supervision - Must be able to provide functional and operational direction to early career transportation packaging/transportation specialists performing HE and HMPT work within E-5 and provide guidance to Laboratory personnel on HMPT issues.
Clearance - Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) Q Clearance.
- Ability to obtain HRP.
Education Required: Position requires an associate's degree and 12 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.
Desired Qualifications: Classified Parts Management - Working knowledge of how to communicate and coordinate policies associated with classified matter protection and control (CMPC). Experience as a Classified Material Custodian (CMC) and materials balance area (MBA) custodian.
Special Systems - Hands on experience with PDM Link, CPIMS, LAN/MAS, LANL Footprints, HEIDI, and Atlas systems
Packaging and Transportation - Advanced knowledge on writing Intern Hazard Classifications (IHC's) and hazard analysis reports (HAR's)

Clearance Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management. Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
