Registered Nurse (RN), Mental HealthMiami VA Healthcare System (MVAHS)/Bruce W. Carter Medical Center, Miami, FL OverviewWe are seeking a Specialized Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Mental Health Nursing Unit team at the Miami VA Healthcare System in Miami, FL. The patients in this unit carry various psychiatric diagnoses including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and cognitive impairment such as dementia. Many patients may be under involuntary and/or court- ordered admissions. The schedule for this role is rotating eight (8), ten (10) and twelve-hour (12) tours on rotating day, night, and evening shifts, to include weekdays, weekends, and holidays.Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for patient assessments, BCMA medication administration, interdisciplinary team coordination, admissions, discharges, internal and external transfers, delegating to assistive personnel, electronic medical record documentation, patient transport, withdrawal monitoring and management, and emergency response procedures, applying de-escalation techniques and Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMBD) strategies to help people manage their emotions and behavior, providing evidence based, individual support, such as cognitive behavior therapy principles for depression and anxiety.
- Every 15-minute unit specific patient monitoring and rounding.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Minimum of at least three (3) years mental health experience and be fully credentialed through VetPro to provide patient care services in the Miami VAMC.
- Ability to function in a high-paced, stressful environment.
- Unrestricted license to practice nursing in one of the States, Territories, or Commonwealths of the United States or the District of Columbia.
- Staff shall complete VA mandatory training as requested and complete ACLS/BLS training and keep ACLS/BLS certifications current throughout the life of the contract. Certification refers to the successful completion of an American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN) approved BLS or ACLS course. The AHA and MTN are the only programs acceptable by VA for obtaining required certification.
