Job SummaryThe Packaging Technician is responsible for operating packaging equipment and ensuring product quality standards are met. This role includes performing quality checks, packaging products according to specifications, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment. The Packaging Technician works closely with team leaders to ensure efficient production and compliance with plant safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Follow all plant safety procedures and report any unsafe conditions to supervisors.
- Complete required safety training and actively participate in safety programs, including submitting near misses and observations.
- Obtain and maintain a forklift license, operating the forklift safely when needed.
- Operate packaging control panels and packaging equipment efficiently.
- Monitor product weights on scales and perform timely quality checks to ensure products meet weight and quality specifications.
- Operate and maintain packaging lines, adjusting settings for date code, weight, conveyors, glue, sewing, and heat-sealing processes.
- Perform changeover tasks between product batches, working to minimize downtime.
- Ensure all products are packaged accurately, including proper bagging, labeling, and application of tags and stickers.
- Inspect products for correct specifications such as size, color, density, and mix.
- Collect product samples as required by Quality Assurance protocols.
- Assist with moving pallets of product and stacking them safely in storage areas.
- Maintain a clean work area, including packing and warehouse areas.
- Re-palletize or dispose of distressed product as needed.
- Accurately record production data and complete shift paperwork.
- Perform minor maintenance and troubleshooting of packaging equipment.
- Transfer responsibilities between shifts and communicate any issues to team leaders.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications- Ability to operate packaging equipment and follow plant safety procedures.
- Must be able to obtain a forklift license and operate it safely.
- Strong attention to detail in monitoring product quality and packaging accuracy.
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy materials and operate equipment.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous experience in a packaging or manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in operating packaging control panels and performing equipment maintenance.
- Strong organizational and communication skills for shift transfers and teamwork.
