Department: Facilities & Construction MgmtSALARY RANGE: C16 $48,830.38 - $68,696.71LOCATION: FCM-MAINTENANCERESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of a Crew Supervisor, applies paint and other coating materials to various surfaces from ground level and/or scaffolds, platforms, aerial lifts, and ladders at various heights, using brushes, rollers, and spray guns. Uses pressure washers to clean and prepare surfaces for painting and/or beautification, moves furniture and equipment as needed to complete painting tasks, including but not limited to removing light or outlet covers and/or moldings and window coverings. Follows accepted methods using proper materials and/or tools in order to prepare various surfaces for painting; cares for and cleans standard painting tools; covers work area and preserves non-paintable surfaces. Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with putty, spackle, or other fillers to make a suitable surface for the finish coat. Prepares new sheet rock for painting, and does other related work as required to perform restorations or renovations.REQUIREMENTS: The painter position is a recognized trade, and the journeyman obtains expertise through apprenticeship or equivalent experience in which the tools, techniques, and materials associated with the work are learned. The painter works under the general supervision of a Foreman or other appropriate supervisor, moves from job to job, and works both inside and outside using materials and techniques appropriate to each specific job. The painter may work alone or as a member of a group. The individual uses some independent judgment in determining how surfaces should be prepared, receiving job assignments from the supervisor who is also consulted as needed on job requirements. Depending on the job size, difficulty, and/or special problems, the work may be checked while in progress or after completion. The painter is responsible for lettering new signs and re-lettering old signs, including removal and installation of signage.EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience in work involving the painting and repainting of the interior and exterior of buildings and structures. NOTE: Applicants not having the experience may meet the requirements if they have the following: Successful completion of an apprentice painting program approved by the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training.LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.Provisional appointment pending an examination given by the Civil Service Commission.New Residency Law: Effective September 1, 2011, all employees of State and Local Government must reside in the State of New Jersey, unless exempted under law.
