Summary: The Paper Product Development Engineer will be responsible for leading and executing new product development projects, improving existing products, and ensuring the highest quality standards. This role requires a strong technical background, innovative thinking, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to meet customer needs and sales and market demands.Key responsibilities of the Paper Product Development Engineer position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of new paper products from concept to commercialization.
- Conduct market research to identify customer needs, industry trends, and potential opportunities for new products.
- Coordinate equipment selections and modifications to enhance capabilities in response to market opportunities, including completing capital expenditures.
- Manage new capability development trials at the mill, customer converting locations and customer plants, ensuring alignment with technical research and sustainability goals,
- Ensure product performance and quality standards are met on current and new product development products.
- Evaluate and improve existing paper products to enhance performance, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Implement changes to materials, processes, and formulations to optimize product attributes.
- Provide technical support and expertise in the areas of paper chemistry, material science, and process engineering.
- Conduct experiments, analyze data, and interpret results to guide product development decisions.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including procurement, engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, marketing, and sales to deliver innovative paper solutions.
- Communicate project updates, technical findings, and recommendations to cross functional teams.
- Manage multiple product development projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and alignment with company goals.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for product quality issues.
- Technical troubleshooting skills to assist customers with quality and new product development concerns, requires travel to customers.
- Support management/leadership of the Quality department.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Pulp and Paper Engineering or Chemical Engineering preferred (extensive experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
- Must have pulp and paper engineering experience
- 5 + years' experience in Paper Manufacturing product development, technical field work and/or quality
- Possess outstanding analytical skills
- Lean Manufacturing experience
- Proficient-level user of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word. Mini-tab and Project
