We are a vibrant, busy, and growing full-service law firm looking to increase our talented ranks of paralegals. We are seeking a Paralegal (Employment & Labor) to become a part of our team! Our practice services both Employers and Employees and the ideal candidate will have had experience with both. The practice further acts as general counsel to a variety of clients so experience with regulations and compliance a plus, and the ability to service clients and act as our client-facing contact is essential. As this Practice does extensive outreach and programming, organizational and operational skills needed. Substantively, you will assist in handling litigation before the full spectrum of Federal, State, and local agencies as well as State and Federal Courts. This includes cases involving Title VII, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the ADEA, and FMLA, New York State, City, and local Human Rights Laws, Labor Laws, and Workers Compensation Law, amongst others. The successful candidate will be proficient in written and verbal communication and possess excellent research skills. Responsibilities:
- Assist the Partner- Director of Employment Law in representing clients in court or before government agencies
- Enter time into the billing system for the partner
- Review bills and send out bills once a month
- Prepare and draft legal documents on behalf of clients
- Conduct research to support legal proceedings
- Assist in advising clients on legal issues stemming from the relationship between employers and employees
- Support partner in litigating cases in court
- Draft and review employment agreements, contracts, company policies, and employee handbooks
- Assist in negotiating settlements for legal disputes
- Ensure compliance with all legal standards and regulations
- Perform administrative and management functions
- Communicate with agencies such as the Department of Labor (DOL) regarding outstanding matters
- Schedule appointments and meetings
- Answer phones and take messages for new clients, existing clients, etc.
- Calendar deadlines, schedule conference calls, etc.
- Prepare retainers and engagement letters for clients
- Submit conflict checks
- Prepare all files and save them in the system
- Prepare discovery documents
- Communicate with opposing counsel regarding discovery
- Any other ad hoc responsibilities
Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of experience in related fields.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws
- Strong research, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with drafting various legal documents
- Ability to build rapport with clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to carefully proofread and read through long documents (contracts, handbooks, etc.)
Salary Range: $55-$65k Position is located in Lake Success.
