The Finance & Restructuring Bankruptcy paralegal is assigned to specific matters, clients, projects and/or attorneys as a member of the Finance & Restructuring team. There is an annual billing component to this role. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research, investigate, analyze, and summarize facts and factual issues relevant to practice area.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents appropriate to practice area, i.e., ancillary loan documents.
  • Assist with tracking loans, amendments and other transaction closing matters, schedules and addendums and creating and circulating appropriate transaction closing binders.
  • prepare and record UCC filings and other lien search reports.
  • Research and chart market terms on bankruptcy relevant agreements such as debtor-in-possession financings, DIP orders, 363 sale purchase agreements and sale orders, exit financing terms, exit plan structures, etc.
  • Assist with organizing, drafting and compiling proof of claims, preparing for signatures and delivery of proof of claims.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining restructuring group knowledge management material.
  • Research and assist with tracking distress companies, industries, and bankruptcy trends.
  • Perform paralegal duties and responsibilities as directed by group leader and other attorneys in assigned substantive practice group; take appropriate action to monitor and meet deadlines.
  • Perform all assignments in strict compliance with ethical guidelines governing the practice of law.
  • Receive and follow complex instructions.
  • Review due diligence documents and summarize findings.
  • Maintain the firm's official file utilizing the document management system.
  • Track and record client-billable time and non-billable hours, meeting minimum billable hour requirements.
  • Establish priorities and work concurrently on a variety of projects; maintain and prioritize work daily and communicate if unable to meet daily responsibilities.
  • Track and follow-up on status of recorded documents.
  • Order searches, good standings, and other closing documents.
  • Review and download court dockets and bankruptcy filings.
  • Prepare and assemble hearing binders, agendas, CNO/COC binders.
  • Draft notices, CNO/COC, pro hacs, proposed orders, affidavits and other filings including joint administrative motions, motions to extend claim objection deadline, removal motions, non-substantive claim objections, retention applications.
  • Prepare fee applications, proofs of claim, petitions, schedules, and statements.
  • Electronically file documents via EM/ECF and Pacer in the United State Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware and other United States courts.
  • Maintain service lists.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Excellent grammar, punctuation, and proofreading skills.
  • Use initiative in accomplishing routine assignments with minimum supervision.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree; or any combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related work experience, specifically in Finance/Bankruptcy.
  • Specialized training (e.g., paralegal studies or certificate from an ABA recognized program) preferred.
  • Experience or knowledge using restructuring financial research tools such as reorg.org, debtwire, and capitaliq.
  • Experience with database file management systems such as iManage and a records management system.
