Education Level: High School Diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of Missouri approved ParaPro examination. Candidates with a minimum of 60 college hours are preferred. 2. Certification: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification. 3. Experience desired: Training and/or experience related to the specific responsibilities and competencies of the paraprofessional role is beneficial. Experience in a school district or educational institution is preferred. 4. Other Requirements: Must successfully pass a background check and drug test that are satisfactory to the Board of Education. Understand and support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Knowledge of the Special Education Process and laws and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training. Excellent organizational skills, oral and written skills, time management, and telephone skills. Computer knowledge and assistive technology. General Summary: The Special Education Paraprofessional supports the instructional program developed and directed by Special Education teacher(s) and/or specialist(s) for students with developmental and educational disabilities in accordance with district policies and procedures. The paraprofessional will possess good people skills, flexibility, the ability to work under pressure and stay on task, responsibility, reliability, be a self-starter, and have the ability to adjust to change. This position provides assistance to one or multiple supervising teachers and/or building principal. Flexibility and strong organizational skills are important. It is equally important to be goal driven and maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality while adhering to Board Policy Performance Responsibilities: 1. Collaborate with and assist the Lead Teacher in instruction and supervision across all settings including implementation of special strategies for reinforcing skills based on the special needs and abilities of each student with respect to individual differences and maintenance of supportive and inclusive environments. 2. Participates as an effective team member across all settings in a manner that promotes collaboration for student success by carrying out team decisions as assigned, contributing relevant information and assisting with planning, problem solving, and decision making. 3. Assists with the preparation of instructional/learning resources. 4. Supervises students in teacher-planned activities and helps students stay on task for programs taught by supervising teacher. 5. Assists the teacher with implementation of instructional strategies in the classroom that respect individual differences, foster student achievement, and maintain supportive and inclusive environments. 6. Performs support tasks to enhance the effectiveness of the learning environment. 7. Demonstrates continued professional growth to meet changes in the position. 8. Assist in the organizational environment to promote learning. 9. Assist in the management and supervision of students. 10. Accept direction from supervisors (including supervising teacher). 11. Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, parent communications, and/or classroom activities. 12. Carries out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions, and new or emergency situations. Performs routine instructional and non-instructional support tasks, including assisting with hygiene needs such as toileting, feeding, clerical duties, and use of adaptive/assistive equipment or technology. 13. Meets applicable district physical ability/healthy and safety guidelines for the position. 14. Demonstrates respect for students, staff, and parents in all situations. 15. At the request of the teacher, principal, director, superintendent or designee, shall assist in other duties as assigned. Transportation time may be spent commuting between sites and assisting with student supervision and participation in school events and activities. * The employee may have to work with some students who may display physically aggressive behavior, including but not limited to biting, kicking, punching and/or throwing objects. RSMS has an enrollment of approximately 285 students in grades 7-8 and employs around 45 staff members.
