Summary Description:Under direction, performs instructional support work involving parents and the community. Responsibilities include planning, recommending, and implementing programs to involve parents and the community in school affairs. Workers identify community needs that can be met using school resources, develop community resources for supporting school programs, serve as liaison for parents/children, assist parents in utilizing available community and county services, and establish a school-business relationship. This role requires the ability to work effectively with parents, community members, and others.

Physical Demands: Ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.Special Requirements: Some evening and occasional weekend work may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:Knowledge of school programs, the school community, and available community services and resources in Montgomery County. Ability to work effectively with school staff, parents, local organizations, and diverse socioeconomic groups. Ability to develop and implement programs to involve parents and the community in school affairs. Skill in organizing and working with groups. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Fluency in a second language preferred for some positions.

Education, Training, Experience:Bachelor's degree required. Coursework in education, counseling, or communications desirable. Experience with school and community activities, preferably in a leadership role. Some counseling experience desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree may be considered.
