Position Type: AdvocateDate Posted: 9/13/2024Location: Westview Lower ElementaryClosing Date: until filledPOSITION: Parent Engagement & Attendance Liaison LOCATION: Westview Lower Elementary School WORK YEAR: 2024-2025 School Year RATE OF PAY: Per Non-Affiliated Salary Schedule JOB DESCRIPTION: The Parent Engagement and Attendance Liaison will promote school success by providing family support for our students. The staff member will provide parent workshops that increase parent knowledge for literacy, math, behavior and improving attendance. The Liaison will connect parents with community resources. The Liaison will work with the School Social Worker, MTSS Behavior Specialist, Academic Coaches and administration to identify kids who are in need of additional support and will help coordinate intervention strategies between school and home. This position is grant funded. QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School graduate or equivalent required;
  • Knowledge and experience working with students at a K-12 and post secondary level.
  • Demonstrated successful work experience with people from varied economic, ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated successful work experience with community, teachers, students and parents.
  • Must be self-motivated and work with flexible time commitments (including evening, weekend and summer hours)
  • Must be able to travel throughout the district to meet the needs of the high school principal, staff and parents.
  • Must have above average organizational and self management skills.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with data collection, student and parent surveys, and the ability to articulate findings.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as group presentation skills.
  • Must have experience working with Powerschool, or the ability to learn.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Develop and enhance communication, networking, and collaboration between parents, schools, and community agencies;
  • Provide supportive services and follow-up activities both in the home and school environments;
  • Schedule and keep home visits with parents to gather information, facilitate goal setting and assist in problem solving;
  • Promote strategies for parent/guardian involvement in school related activities;
  • Foster a positive and open working relationship between parents and the school;
  • Meet with referred students in the school setting;
  • Represent the agency, school district and program in a professional manner at all times;
  • Maintain required records and documentation for caseload and informal support tasks;
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required by supervisor;
  • Act as truancy liaison in your individual building(s) to ensure students are attending on a regular basis;
  • Act as a facilitator for any classroom presentations on an as needed basis;
  • Act as a facilitator for any student groups on an as needed basis;
  • Work with secretary/clerk to create and send truancy letters;
  • Confers with students, parents, and school administrators;
  • Works with students in who fall under the laws for compulsory school attendance;
  • Attends SST/MTSS meetings at the school;
  • Deals with confidential issues concerning personal family crisis, unhealthy living conditions and personal safety issues involving young children;
  • Monitor student attendance and assist with various attendance procedures;
  • Collect data and accurately prepare and maintain a variety of attendance records and files regarding student attendance, tardiness, truancy, suspension and discipline;
  • Communicate with students and parents regarding attendance and related issues; make and receive phone calls and notes regarding student attendance concerns and problems;
  • Be available to provide ongoing parent support for all families;
  • Work with teachers, office staff and other faculty to identify families who may need additional one-on-one support for students with exceptional needs;
  • Work with families whose students may bring neighborhood/personal issues into the classroom;
  • Meet and establish connections with all new students and their family as they register;
  • Work with the school improvement team, helping provide parent input, including getting parent volunteers;
  • Maintain documentation for measuring progress in parental and community involvement goals;
  • Assist the leadership team by evaluating and creating an inviting school environment for all parents and community members;
  • Assist leadership team, with parents, to conduct annual needs assessments, plan activities and evaluate current strategies for increasing family and community involvement;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
