Position SummaryProvide sanitation services for park facilities and routine park maintenance for a designated park route. Operate specialized Parks and Recreation maintenance equipment. Assist with minor repair and maintenance of the City parks grounds and facilities. These tasks are illustrative only and may include other related duties.Full-time 40 hours per weekAFSCME-represented position12-month probationary periodMust meet all qualifications and requirements as listed in the position description.Essential FunctionsPerforms custodial tasks, sanitizes public restrooms, pulls garbage, cleans and prepares shelters for drop in use and reservations.Performs routine park maintenance tasks including but not limited to debris blowing, fall material maintenance, graffiti removal, litter pickup, and park amenity maintenance. Reports maintenance concerns to the assigned lead worker.Assists in maintenance, construction and repairs to Parks and Recreation buildings including painting, plumbing, carpentry, drinking fountains, playgrounds, picnic tables, benches, paths and trails, roads, parking lots, and associated park amenities.Operates a large variety of equipment including power tools and yard tools. Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs using specialized Parks and Recreation equipment.Performs mowing and rough mowing adhering to established standard operating procedures.Assists with landscape area maintenance, tree care and tree planting.Assists in maintenance and inspection of turf and landscape irrigation systems.Assists with seasonal setup support for sports facilities. Assists with festival and special event set-up, take-down and clean-up.Assists with other Parks maintenance duties as assigned.Records work tasks daily into the Parks Maintenance Management System.Leads and coordinates work of casual staff and volunteers.Responds effectively to customer complaints.Operates and drives a motor vehicle and/or equipment safely and legally.Acts ethically and honestly; applies ethical standards of behavior to daily work activities and interactions. Builds confidence in the City through own actions.Conforms with all safety rules and performs work is a safe manner.Delivers excellent customer service to diverse audiences.Maintains effective work relationships.Adheres with all City and Department policies.Arrives to work, meetings, and other work-related functions on time and maintains regular job attendance.Qualifications and SkillsEducation and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Two years of related work experience, training, and/or education including at least one year of park maintenance experience required.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to understand and follow simple oral and written instruction and to exchange routine information. Basic understanding of simple work processes, methods or equipment.Ability to learn required physical skills, that must be performed in the course of regular work routines that can be learned on the job over a relatively short period of time.Ability to use ordinary conversational skills and courtesy to exchange routine information and provide routine assistance. Ability to handle diverse situations confidently.Ability to learn and apply job-related information and techniques and determine and select appropriate equipment and processes to be used for assigned work.Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, but also work alone at a worksite, under supervisory direction while performing duties thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with Department policy.Ability to get along well and maintain effective work relationships with others, including coworkers and the public.Special RequirementsMust be 18 years of age or older.Ability to operate a variety of equipment in a safe and efficient manner, including but not limited to tractors, front end loaders, specialized turf mowers, trucks and trucks with trailers, and implements associated with parks maintenance.Ability to transport large equipment through commercial and residential districts.Maintenance of First Aid/CPR certification.Possession and ability to maintain a valid Driver's License.Demonstrable commitment to sustainability.Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion.The individual shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others in the workplace.Ability to pass a pre-employment background and/or criminal history check.How to ApplyQualified applicants must submit an online application located on the City of Corvallis website (click on Apply above).
