The Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District has an opportunity for a Park Maintenance Worker - Parks who will assist at Open-Space reserves across Riverside County.
The Park Maintenance Worker will conduct maintenance work at Open-Space reserves across Riverside County, sometimes independently in remote locations away from established roads. Duties for this position include constructing, installing, and repairing of fences and gates; string trimming, tractor mowing, hand removing invasive non-native plants, and applying herbicide for weed abatement and habitat restoration. The Park Maintenance Worker will operate skid steers, tractors, mowers, OHV vehicles, chain saws, and GPS devices in the performance of duties.
Competitive candidates will have experience with irrigation and landscaping, with experience operating associated tools and medium to heavy equipment, such as skid steers and tractors. Additionally, herbicide and pesticide application experience, a Qualified Applicator License (QAL) and/or Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC), and experience in welding and/or installing fences is highly desired.
The work schedule is Tuesday - Saturday, but may change based on business needs, Additionally, the Park Maintenance Worker will work weekends and holidays.

Maintain open space areas; maintain and improve open space areas by removing non-native plants; remove dead trees and branches by using chain and hand saws; plant and maintain trees; remove trash, lumber, dump piles, debris, appliances and furniture from open space areas.
* Operate a variety of trucks and tractors in hauling trash, debris, lumber, dump piles, debris, appliances and furniture.
* Perform minor carpentry and welding work for the installation and repair of various fences and gates; perform semi-skilled maintenance work in cutting and laying pipe for the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems.
* Perform weed abatement, propagation, and habitat restoration.Experience: Two years of performing grounds or building maintenance and repair, landscape gardening, or as a Park Attendant with the County of Riverside Parks Department. (College level courses from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to one year of the required experience on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of full-time experience.)
Knowledge of: Common tools, equipment, and materials used in maintenance work; basic vehicle preventive maintenance techniques.
Ability to: Read and follow written instructions and write simple reports; perform a variety of routine grounds, building, equipment, and vehicle preventive maintenance and repair; operate equipment, and learn procedures and safety techniques used in performing maintenance and minor construction projects; deal courteously and tactfully with the general public.Other Requirements
A California Driver's License Class C is required. The Park Maintenance Worker will travel to different locations and operate vehicles in the performance of duties.
Physical Environment
The Park Maintenance Worker role involves traversing over and working on uneven terrain; manipulating hand tools and equipment; exposure to varied and inclement weather; handling chemicals; adhering to welding safety; managing noise levels; and moving heavy objects (with or without reasonable accommodation). Expect exposure to wild animals, domestic animals, and hazardous plants; examples include rattlesnakes, bees/wasps, wild boar, mountain lions, dogs, poison oak, and stinging nettle.
Some Regional Park and Open-Space District Park Maintenance Worker - Parks positions are designated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as safety-sensitive.
For positions which been designated by the DOT as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required.
Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random, reasonable suspicion/cause, return-to-duty, and post-accident.
