Near Medford, Oregon

Would you enjoy working on a team where you can use your excellent customer service skills and develop hands-on experience in park maintenance and operations? In this position, you'll be working along 4 miles of river front landscape that connects Grants Pass and Medford.

What you will do:

As a Park Ranger at Valley of the Rogue State Park, you will perform, conduct and oversee a variety of tasks in order to protect, maintain, operate and repair state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment and systems by using skills in building trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and landscape maintenance, as well as specialized program skills (e.g.: resource interpretation, cultural and natural resource restoration, utility infrastructure operation, park rule enforcement, etc.) related to the maintenance and operations of agency programs, and properties within the Rogue Management unit.

Minimum Qualifications

* Four (4) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

OR

* A Bachelor's degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a similar field; AND One (1) year of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

OR

* An Associate's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a similar field; AND Two and a half (2.5) years of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

Special Requirements:

* To be hired, you must have a criminal record and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.

* You must have a valid driver's license at the time of hire and throughout employment.

* Skill in Verbal Judo or similar tactical communications method.

* Experience in park rule enforcement.

* Experience with specialized park resource and facility operations and maintenance, including diagnosing maintenance and operation problems, breakdowns and disruptions, and initiating and carrying out solutions.

* Experience in the safe use of tools, material and equipment associated with landscape, building, facility and utility system maintenance.

* Skill in performing plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds-keeping tasks at a journeyman level.

* Experience in planning and organizing equipment, materials and staff to accomplish work.

* Experience giving direction concerning work procedures to individuals or teams composed of volunteers and correctional facility crews in accomplishing different and varied tasks to achieve goals.

* Experience in planning and carrying out interpretive programs in park units with a high level of complexity.

* Possess water or wastewater certification

* The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS.
