Salary : $34,652.80 - $44,158.40 AnnuallyLocation : Atlantic Beach, FLJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 25-04Department: Public WorksOpening Date: 11/08/2024Closing Date: 11/22/2024 11:59 PM EasternGeneral Summary Performs a wide variety of tasks that consist of repairing, maintaining, preserving, and protecting City parks, recreational sites, buildings and facilities. Represents the City to the public in a professional and courteous manner while performing Ranger duties. Work is performed under supervision of the Parks & Building Maintenance Supervisor and performance is reviewed through conferences, in progress and upon completion by observation and through results obtained. Will require working on weekends and at night. Overtime work may also be necessary.Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform custodial and ground keeping activities in maintaining parks and recreation areas including common areas, right-of-ways and sidewalks.
  • Maintenance and repair of tennis, racquetball, and basketball courts; baseball fields; playground equipment; nature trails; structures; and fences and signs around parks.
  • Remove and dispose of all rubbish and trash in designated facilities; Pick up litter and empty garbage cans at designated facilities.
  • Clean park restrooms and community center restrooms including sanitizing and deodorizing toilets and floors; check and stock supplies; ensure that all lavatories are working properly.
  • Perform general maintenance repairs such as windows and doors, flooring, walls, filters, lighting, painting, replacement of damaged ceiling tiles, etc.
  • Operate power saws and chain saws, drills, string trimmers, blowers, mowers, etc.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on irrigation systems; Landscaping of all sorts.
  • Assist in the coordination of recreational activities and special events; participate in the preparation of facilities for various events, including setting-up and arranging tables, chairs, and equipment as instructed; break down, clean, and store materials. Weekend work, evening work, and overtime are frequently necessary.
  • Maintain and clean Community Centers.
  • Load/unload stone, gravel, dirt, asphalt, timber, and heavy mechanical equipment and supplies.
  • Perform basic plumbing repairs such as urinals, sinks and lavatories.
  • Construct and repair wooden structures such as walkovers, bridges, benches, tables, buildings, etc.
  • Perform roof repair and clean gutters; utilize ladders and lifts for overhead work such as lighting and tree pruning.
  • Maintenance of ditches and ponds. Shoveling sand on beach accesses.
  • Enforce City ordinances and park rules and regulations.
  • Assist skilled tradesman by carrying materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Perform minor electrical and mechanical repairs.
  • Pour concrete; fill pavement cracks with asphalt; shovel and rake asphalt paving mix in road repairs.
  • Cleaning and repair of drainage structures such as gutters, culverts, catch basins and storm drains.
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of all Parks materials and equipment.
  • Prepare work orders; ensure work orders are properly completed; evaluate the performance and quality of work.
  • Unlock doors of facilities; lock facilities at closing times, ensuring that doors are secure.
  • Perform periodic playground and facility inspections.
  • Conduct guided tours and walks in the parks.
  • Recommend and make improvements in work procedures and activities; maintain operating records; prepare special reports and memoranda as required.
  • Maintain and promote safety rules and regulations as set by City policy; Patrol parks to prevent unsafe hazards; Enforce City ordinances and park rules and regulations.
  • Operate pick-up truck, bobcat, forklift, and related equipment.
  • Assist other City departments as approved by supervisors.
  • Participate in hurricane preparedness activities.
  • Perform all other duties as required.

Education and Experience Minimum two (2) years experience in light construction, general maintenance and landscaping. Minimum one (1) year experience in dealing with the public. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of building cleaning processes, supplies, and equipment. Ability to physically perform custodial tasks. Knowledge of (and skill in) mechanical repairs, general maintenance and landscaping. Ability to lift heavy objects, work in high temperature outdoor settings, and work effectively when alone on a jobsite. Skill in operating machinery, power tools and hand tools. Ability to analyze problems, formulate a solution and put into effect. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize. Knowledge of occupational hazard and safety precautions necessary to the operation of parks equipment and light duty vehicles, and the ability to work in a safe manner consistent with the City's policies. Ability to abide by the City's policies, rules and regulations. Ability to learn. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and other employees.
