This position may be the opportunity for you, a motivated individual with knowledge of general parks landscape, turf, facility and irrigation maintenance to serve in a passionate, innovative community. We are seeking a leader who is interested in an exciting career opportunity to help plan, prioritize, and implement maintenance of Downtown Park Blocks and right of way in the Downtown Core.

This person will lead others and work outdoors in a fun, diverse, and rewarding team environment; you will perform, organize, and oversee the maintenance activities of the Team's work plan and maintenance standards.

Salary Range: $27.85 - $34.77 Hourly / $57,928.00 - $72,321.60 Annually

Work Location: Facilities, 210 Cheshire, Eugene, OR; Work location is Downton Eugene

Must reside in the state of Oregon and be able to report onsite in Eugene, OR for work as needed.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM with occasional weekends and evenings per business need.

* Inspects, organizes and performs landscape and grounds maintenance projects at one or more assigned park and/or garden areas, coordinating the irrigation, application of fertilizers, and identification and care of ornamental and native plants and turf, meadows and wetlands.

* Performs precision mechanical work to repair park equipment, which may include metal fabrication, calibrating equipment, and use of specialized tools and equipment.

* Prioritizes related building maintenance projects and performs building and grounds maintenance work, such as painting and carpentry; works with building contractors; and monitors custodial, heating and elevator contracts.

* In addition to operating and maintaining equipment listed in the Park Specialist 1 and 2 classification, operates and maintains mowing equipment, power tools, and specialized equipment to maintain facilities and grounds.

* Oversees the preventive maintenance of equipment assigned to a crew to assure that it is safe and in operable condition.

* Schedules and participates in the preparation, renovation and maintenance programs, ornamental gardens, wetlands and natural resource areas.

* Monitors the operation of irrigation systems in order to program controllers to ensure that watering schedules are suitable for varied turf grasses and plants, soil conditions, and current weather conditions.

* Tests and repairs backflow prevention devices to comply with state requirements.

* Under direction of a licensed individual, performs low voltage irrigation wiring associated with irrigation systems.

* Schedules and participates in the repair of outdoor lighting.

* Schedules and participates in the repair and installation of playground equipment.

* Operates computer terminals and uses programs to order supplies and materials, prioritize work orders and track expenses; assists in the development of project budgets and works with vendors to purchase materials.

* Provides lead direction to other Park Specialists and seasonal workers at a work site and assists lead worker in overseeing maintenance work at multiple sites.

* Provides coaching, training, and instruction in parks and open space techniques, use and care of equipment and tools; reviews the work of crew members as to standards and assesses skill development of crew members; provides input to performance reviews; may develop training exercises for tasks and equipment operations.

* Assures work is performed according to established safety practices and procedures. Directs and performs set-up of traffic control devices and procedures at a job site to provide safe working conditions and public safety.

* Provides tours and information for school and community groups and other visitors to explain garden culture aspects and general park information.

* Actively supports and respects diversity in the workplace.

* Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Experience:

Four years of increasingly responsible experience in specialized grounds keeping, garden maintenance, nursery trade, irrigations systems, park and wetland, tree maintenance, open waterway and natural resource maintenance related to area of assignment.

License or Certificate:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain an appropriate, valid Oregon driver's license; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City's standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).

Ability to obtain, and ability to maintain, a valid Oregon State Class A commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsement(s).

Flagger certification.

May require Pesticide Applicator License - Ornamentals and Turf, Herbicide Certification

May require State Certification in backflow prevention testing.

May require additional technical and/or specialized certification(s) to perform the assigned duties.

The ideal candidate will possess the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of:

* Park maintenance principles, practices and equipment involved in the area of assignment.

* Methods and practices of skilled garden and landscape maintenance.

* Basic principles and practices of horticulture

* Equipment, tools, materials, supplies, and practices involved in the grounds, landscape, or building maintenance.

* Safe and effective operating practices of light and heavy equipment used in area of assignment.

* Safety precautions and the ability to identify hazards.

* Computer and applicable computer applications.

Abilities to:

* Perform skilled parks and/or natural resource maintenance work in the area of assignment.

* Read and interpret equipment instructions, maps and blueprints.

* Select, propagate and care for ornamental plants.

* Perform garden, turf and grounds maintenance.

* Instruct others in parks and open space maintenance practices and methods.

* Plan and organize the work of others.

* Work well with other employees and the public.

* Communicate effectively and courteously with City employees and the public and establish effective working relationships.

* Perform strenuous physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and frequently in confined spaces and uncomfortable conditions.

* Provide and wear personal protective equipment as required.

* Operate, repair, and maintain complex hand and power tools, machinery, instruments, and construction equipment.

* Provide and wear personal protective equipment as required.

* Be available and respond for emergency call-back as needed.
