A Maintenance Aide II performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance of facilities, buildings, & structures. Employees work under general supervision, performing a full range of assigned duties, performing routine and semi-skilled duties. They are trained to perform the duties which require a higher degree of skill and responsibility. As trainees, employees may perform duties normally assigned to Utility I workers.
Those with pool knowledge, program support, and custodial experience are desired and encouraged to apply.
SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 2:30pm. Possible weekend shifts also available.
BENEFITS:
This position is 28 hours per week and provides 40 hours of sick leave each year.
This position participates in the Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Classic Members in this position will contribute 8% and New Members will contribute 7.75%. Benefits of CalPERS membership include:
* Classic Members (membership in CalPERS before 01/01/2013) - 2% @ 55
* New Members (membership in CalPERS after 01/01/2013) - 2% @ 62
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS May include, but are not limited to, the following:
Note: Specific Essential Functions will vary depending on assignment.
* Performs routine semi-skilled manual labor which includes: sweeping, lifting, tugging, pulling and carrying heavy objects, material and equipment; cleaning grounds and buildings
* Performs semi-skilled and skilled work in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and facility preparation and maintenance
* Consistent and maintained attendance and punctuality
* Performs custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, buffing, waxing, checking heating and air conditioning, and otherwise assisting in the maintenance and repair of parks buildings and furnishings
* Set up and cleanup of recreation functions and special events
* Assists with maintenance of equipment.
* Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of park structures and fixtures, including picnic tables, fences, benches, light standards, waste containers and building facilities
* May assist /guide the activities of assigned subordinates
* Build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including vendors and partners; provide quality customer service; and work closely with other CARD staff as a cohesive team
* Perform all other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and one year of related facilities or grounds construction or maintenance experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's)
Skill in:
* Performing semi-skilled maintenance, construction and repair work in assigned area of responsibility
* operating a variety of vehicles and equipment in a safe and effective manner, including light tractors with attachment, front-end loaders, concrete saws, wood-routing machines, air compressors, jack hammers, roto-hammers and other pneumatic and power tools
* working safely and adhering to principles of safety in operation of vehicles, tools and equipment
* common hand tools, equipment and materials used in the listed duties
* following safe work practices
Ability to:
* work with, in and around chemicals, solvents and pesticides, or work where such chemicals have been sprayed
* work indoors or outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including heat, cold, dampness, humidity, dryness, smoke and noise
* work irregular hours, nights, weekends, etc.
* lift, carry, push, tug and pull weights exceeding fifty pounds
* walk, stand. crawl, kneel, bend and use limbs repetitively and climb
* operate motorized equipment and work with or in moving vehicles
* reach above shoulder height
* use fine motor skills to manipulate small objects
* perform the essential functions of this classification
Knowledge of:
* maintenance and construction of park landscaped areas, recreational facilities, grounds, structures and fixtures
* District rules and regulations
* general horticultural principles and practices
Licenses or Other Requirements:
California Driver's License of appropriate class for vehicles to be operated.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work will be performed in a typical indoor environment on a year-round basis subject to typical custodial work. Work will be performed indoors subject to year-round weather conditions that could include exposure to high or cold temperatures, sun, rain, dust, and wind. Duties may include exposure to heavy equipment noise. The employee may occasionally work in high, precarious places.
