Safety/Security Status: Safety SensitiveSUMMARY Under limited supervision, performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled labor in the maintenance and construction of grounds, parks, buildings, and recreational areas for the City by performing the following duties. This position differs from the Parks Maintenance Worker I & II in the ability to perform more advanced levels of semi-skilled and skilled assignments - requiring a high-degree of skills and knowledge, along with the ability to exercise considerable independent in the selection of methods and procedures to use within the parks maintenance areas. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting relationships, work assignments, work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Work weekends, holidays as needed. Receive certification for forklift, aerial lift, and other equipment. Receive certification for CPR, AED, and other certifications as needed. Daily work orders, meet yearly goals, maintain tools and equipment used in performance of duties, and attend meetings and trainings Other duties may be assigned. When Assigned Duties in Grounds Maintenance Mows grass, plants trees, shrubs, or flowers according to instructions and planned design of landscaped area. Grubs and weeds around bushes, trees, and flower beds. Plants new and repairs established lawns. Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls. Applies herbicide, sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides as designated by crew leader, maintenance foreman and under supervision of licensed professional. Trims hedges and shrubs. Prunes trees, mulches and cultivates gardens. Sprays trees and shrubs and applies supplemental liquid and dry nutrients to lawn and trees as designated by crew leader and/or maintenance supervisor. Picks up or carts away paper and rubbish. Rakes and bags leaves. Cleans grounds and removes litter. Digs trenches and installs drain tiles. Keeps storm drains and culverts free of debris. Repairs and paints, benches, tables and guardrails, and assists in repair of roads, walks, buildings, and mechanical equipment. Makes repairs to concrete and asphalt walks and driveways. Maintains healthy turf areas in all park's facilities. Fertilize, irrigate, aerate etc. Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears. Makes minor repairs on small equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers. Repairs fences, gates, walls, and walks. Paints fences and outbuildings. Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears. Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, spreader, and snow removal equipment. Mows grass, prunes shrubs, trims trees, and plants flowers and shrubs from parks. Removes leaves and other debris from parks. Drives vehicles such as backhoe, forklift, aerial lift, skid steer, dump trucks, trucks, and tractors. Repairs and maintains tools and equipment. Keeps park facilities, trails, electrical boxes, and city property painted and free of debris or graffiti. Removes dead or damaged trees or tree limbs. Maintains fall surface under play structures. Shovels snow from walks, biking trails and spreads ice-melt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup. Assists with athletic field preparation. Maintains soft and hard surface trails. Recognizes and locates conditions which require maintenance and repair. Maintains basic maintenance records. Incorporates safe work practices in all job performances. Leads safety training sessions with coworkers. Shovels snow from walks, biking trails, bridges, city parks, city parking lots and spreads ice-melt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup. Confers with the Parks Maintenance Foreman to help coordinate the support of activities of other City Departments and organizations. Interprets company policies to workers. Acts as the On Site supervisor for enforcing safety regulations. Assist with special projects performed by the Parks and Recreation Department and other local organizations, including, but not limited to, construction projects, ballfield preparations, special events or programming and holiday lights display. Responsible for supervising temporary and/or seasonal employees. Responsible for working with Parks Maintenance Manager, Parks Maintenance Foreman and department crew leaders to respond to city services during inclement weather events. This position is considered an essential services position that requires work to be performed during extreme weather and in natural disaster events. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESRoutinely oversees the work of Parks Maintenance Worker I & II staff and part-time, seasonal, and temporary workers. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Position may require a commercial driver's license.
