We are determined: We are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger, beginning with you.RequirementsPosition Title: Assistant TeacherReports To: Child Development DirectorDepartment: Child CareClassification: Part Time , Non-ExemptCompensation: $15.00-$17.00 per hourPOSITION SUMMARY:This position supports the lead teacher in the classroom by ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment that promotes learning and progress.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist in the daily care of children and implementing Creative Curriculum
  • Maintain open communication with the Lead Teacher and will receive direction and ideas from the Lead Teacher
  • Assist in providing a safe and fun environment for the children to play, learn, and grow
  • Cleaning duties as outlined in the classroom cleaning checklist
  • Paper work including daily activity sheets, accident reports, and portfolio documentation on each child's learning, progress, and development
  • Continuing education including classes, conferences, workshops, and in-services to enhance the knowledge and understanding of teaching; Completion of 16 clock hours per calendar year
  • Communication to director regarding issues, concerns, supplies or needs within the classroom
  • Appropriate communication to other staff members, children, parents, etc.
  • Work within the guidelines of the YMCA's mission, areas of focus
  • All other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Must be responsible, dependable, enthusiastic, and able to communicate effectively
  • Previous child care experience
  • Adult, Child, and Infant CPR/AED and First Aid (will provide training if needed)
  • Must have good oral and written communications skills, including computer skills
  • Outgoing personality and experience engaging with the public by phone and in person
  • Current CDA credential (recommended)
  • Early Childhood Education or Child Development coursework (recommended)
