Job DescriptionThis position is responsible for preparing meals for the meal sites in Ransom & Sargent Counties and serving the meal according to the menu plan in a timely manner, while maintaining a cleanly kitchen and serving area. This position reports to the Ransom/Sargent County Coordinator. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am-1:00pm with some flexibility to fill-in for cooks in their absence. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare and serve the daily noon meal. Prepare the day's menu according to the menu plan, get meals ready for other VSS sites that this site provides meals for, package meals for meals on wheels, all in a timely matter.
  • Clean up of meal preparation and serving area. Clean meal preparation and serving areas according to health standards, follow a monthly, weekly, and daily cleaning schedule on kitchen equipment.
OTHER FUNCTIONS: Evaluation of this position may also be based on occasional performance of the following other functions, which include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervision of assistant cooks and volunteers. Assign daily chores to staff, give staff clear and concise directions on how to accomplish their chore assignments.
  • Order food and kitchen supplies. Order all food and paper product items according to menu plan, responsible for accurate inventory of all ordered items.
  • Review monthly menu according to USDA and Aging Services guidelines. Collaborate with the dietician and assistant cooks about the monthly menus and ensure that each day meets the nutritional guidelines per USDA and Aging Services
  • Assist with registration for congregate meals.
  • Assist with daily receipting of meal program income and prepare deposit
  • Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
  • Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
Experience and SkillsEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience working in a restaurant or food service setting preferred.
CREDENTIALS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
