Essential Functions
- Ability to perform general physical activities that require considerable use of arms and/or legs and whole-body movement such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, carrying objects and handling tools and materials.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment and handle cleaning materials in a safe and effective manner.

Level of Supervision or Independent Judgement
- Performs duties under direct supervision following procedures, instructions, directions, and training given.
- Minimal independent decision making.
Duties and Responsibilities Custodians are expected to perform any or all duties listed below in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
- Clean and restock restrooms.
- Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
- Gather and empty trash receptacles.
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power Equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
- Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.
- Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
- Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
- Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
- Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or with hand trucks.
- Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, scaffolding, etc. to prepare facilities for events such as banquets or meetings.
- Perform similar duties not specifically listed as directed.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience of a very similar nature.
- Ability to pass a background screening process and/or obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card, as necessary.
Preferred Skills
- Previous experience performing custodial responsibilities within a similar environment.
- Familiarity with and understanding of safe work practices particularly when performing general physical activities and handling chemicals or other hazardous materials.
Work Environment Duties are performed in or closely around buildings or other enclosed, generally climate-controlled structures. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and moderate noise levels is anticipated. Operation of cleaning equipment involves the ability to repetitively manipulate objects from light to substantial weight using both fine and gross motor skills.
