Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Part-Time Horticulturist on the Gainesville campus. This position is responsible for planning, designing, and maintaining ornamental plants such as flowers and shrubs. This includes assisting in plant selection for garden beds, plant propogation, installation, and maintaining the health and aesthetics of the plants on campus.
Responsibilities
* Monitor and maintain plant health through regular pruning, watering, fertilization, and chemical application.
* Propogate and assist with plant installation.
* Use and maintain powered equipment and hand tools.
* Recommend design and implementation of landscape plans, garden layouts, and plant selection.
* Assist with greenhouse operations and maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
* Knowledge of sustainable horticulture, soil management, plant identification and selection, plant installation and establishment, greenhouse operations, plant care and maintenance, and developing landscape plans and layouts.
* Follow safety procedures and work in a safe manner.
* Ability to operate power tools, basic landscaping hand tools and equipment.
* Must be able to perform preventive maintenance and minor corrective maintenance on equipment and tools.
* Must be able to operate a vehicle to various job sites.
* Must be able to understand and follow specific oral and written instruction.
* Must have the ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time outdoors.
* Must be able to work at heights up to 12 feet, execute work requiring bending, kneeling, and reaching overhead, lift up to 50 pounds, and climbing ladders of varying sizes.
Required Qualifications
* High School or GED required.
* Valid state driver's license required.
* Two (2) years of landscaping, landscaping design, or plant care required.
Preferred Qualifications
* Degree in Environmental Horticulture, Botany, or related preferred.
