Part Time Landfill Scale House AttendantNottoway County Landfill seeks an individual with customer service and computer skills who will oversee landfill operations by providing information and support to haulers and other clients, monitoring loads and site activities, and collecting applicable fees.Please apply at the Nottoway County Administrative Office (344 W. Applications must be received by June 20, 2024.Nottoway County, Virginia is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.Under close supervision, performs a variety of tasks related to the receiving of refuse material from the general public, businesses, and private waste haulers; assessment and collection of disposal fees and recording of solid waste statistical information at the disposal site and transfer station. Assignments include rotating between the remotely located scale houses based on predetermined schedule, working in a non-traditional office environment, having extensive public contact and working on an individual basis.Task:Inspects hauler vehicles and/or loads to ensure location and type of load is appropriate; refuses loads that do not meet state and federal requirements.Weighs or measures loads; and collects/reports information based on load type and size.Directs vehicles to correct dumping locations.Ensures proper handling and disposal of trash and recyclables.Answers inquiries related to landfill operations.Prepares daily reports of all landfill activities, detailing information such as volume and types of waste and recyclables collected.Maintains logs and records detailing disposal of hazardous waste materials.Performs other related duties as assigned.Prepares weigh tickets and/or receipts and keeps records of transactions.Weighs loaded and empty residential and commercial vehicles on computerized platform scale to determine gross and tare weights.Calculates disposal charges based on fee schedule, visual inspection of load material and net weight of vehicles using a calculator/computer; refuses credit to customers with delinquent accounts.Searches, locates, and retrieves customer account/vehicle information from computerized system: verifies account status and accuracy of information to ensure correct amounts and process for payment.Responds to customer inquiries; explains policies, procedures, and regulations regarding the disposal and recycling process, site operations and the fee schedule system in person or over the phone.Issues transaction details to customers for fee transactions; provides and processes various documents/forms for payment; submits to accounting department for processing and/or maintains for supporting documentation, maintain files of transactions and/or other documents according to established procedures.Troubleshoots breakdowns of computer equipment, relays problems to appropriate staff, and subsequently processes customer transactions manually; reports platform scale malfunctions to supervisor.Maintains neatness of scale house office area; secures the scale house at the end of each shift.Visually screens solid waste materials for acceptability and directs the removal of unacceptable wastes.Accurately enter proper charges based on weight, size and content into SMS system.Keep immediate supervisor fully informed of all problems or matters requiring his/her attention.Attends company sponsored training and meetings as directed.Knowledge:Excellent customer service skills.Some computer knowledge.Excellent verbal communication skills.Basic understanding of laws and regulations related to hazardous materials.Basic record keeping techniques to ensure current and accurate information.Common office operating procedures.Basic arithmetic to make calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, and fractions).Principles and practices of effective customer service.File maintenance and organization.Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other specialized applications to area of assignment.Understand and follow applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations related to disposal site and transfer station operations.Operate automated platform scale utilizing a computer system and make readings with accuracy and speed.Knowledge of recyclable materials and Household Hazardous Waste Materials generated from both residential and commercial business.Ability to maintain a positive customer service relationship with the public and commercial use of the facilities.Requirements:High School Diploma or equivalent required.Experience with computer data entry required.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to multi-task.Ability to deal effectively with people.Physical Requirements:Must work in extreme outside weather conditions.Ability to traverse uneven ground.Visual acuity as needed to inspect loads.Requires incumbent to be able to:Frequently stand or sit for long periods of time.Perform activities such as typing on a keyboard involving finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination.Sufficiently recognize and read vehicle license plates at a distance.Sufficiently hear and speak in person, on the telephone, and over a two-way radio.Working conditions:Work outside in inclement weather conditions.Work in an area with exposure to dust, dirt, gas, noise, and odors.Work various shifts with rotating weekends and on-call schedule during emergencies.Involves competing demands, constant interruptions, handling multiple tasks at one time. Workdays are spent entirely in Scale House; timing of lunch and bathroom breaks to correspond with flow of customers in to the transfer station; will have rotating weekends.#J-18808-Ljbffr
