THE POSITIONUnder the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, this position has important impact on the initial impression guests have of the golf course(s) from the appearance of the grounds, to the playability of the course to the attractiveness of the property as a whole. This position helps maintain a safe and enjoyable golfing experience by performing a range of maintenance tasks including mowing, edging and conditioning all types of playing surfaces on the golf course.This position typically works 20 - 30 hours per week, including weekends and holidays, with shifts starting as early as 5 am and ending as late as 10 pm, depending on the season.EXAMPLE OF DUTIESThe duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:Maintain course accessibility and appearance using power and hand tools and chemicals to perform activities such as: mowing, weeding, edging, setup, raking sand traps, laying sod, planting trees, shrubs and flowers.Maintain the appearance and functionality of each hole by changing the cups, tee markers and tee towels, emptying trash and maintaining ball washers.Operate and maintain utility vehicles and equipment, following district safety standards and manufacturer's recommendations.Communicate potential problems by informing manager of any agronomic or maintenance equipment issues.Repair equipment, spray and fertilize course greens.Maintain various aspects of the golf course irrigation system by repairing or replacing irrigation heads, lines and controls.Maintain a safe and orderly maintenance shop.Maintain bathrooms on the course and in the clubhouse.Complete repairs/maintenance projects throughout the facility as requested by supervisors.Implement and support all District policies, procedures and programs as requested by management.The position may perform other related work as assigned.This position is required to be familiar with the conditions of the course and the golfers' experience. In order to meet this expectation, this position shall be entitled to golf on the course without charge during non-working hours.EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSEducation: High School Diploma preferred, but not required.Experience: One (1) year experience in golf course maintenance or landscaping preferred, but not required.Skills and Abilities: Ability to read and understand written instructions, with strong command of English - both written and oral. Must exhibit attention to detail and focus on cleanliness; use good judgment in carrying out written or oral instructions. Driver's License: Must possess a valid California driver's license and demonstrate a good driving record.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSIt is expected that this position will be standing or walking 70% of the time or more, and require regular climbing, bending, kneeling/squatting/stooping, reaching overhead/stretching, crawling; some working on rough and/or uneven terrain, and handling and dexterity; may be required to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds. Position will also require the operation of standard tools and lawn maintenance equipment.
