Part Time Research Associate (Hourly)
GENERAL DUTIES
Conducts academic research in connection with CUNY programs; may assist faculty, staff, and students in conducting research and lead research efforts involving others.
* Develops research plans and proposals and participates in acquiring funding
* Collects, analyzes, and assures validity of data
* Writes progress reports; writes and publishes findings
* Collaborates with internal and external colleagues
* Adheres to standards for safety and hygiene and ethical conduct as defined by the University and relevant outside parties

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Bronx Community College Geospatial Center of the CUNY CREST Institute is seeking a mature hardworking and diligent candidate with superior skill technical sets in Geospatial (Image and Spatial Analyses, Data Modelling, Deep Learning, Machine Learning (AI) and Programming) to work with a range of research projects. The projects may consist of multidisciplinary thematic areas including but not restricted to Climate Change, Urban Planning, Decarbonization, Disaster Management and other relevant global areas of scientific investigations.
The candidate must be passionate and able to work intuitively and independently with minimal guidance for long hours on the computer by using a wide array of data including satellite, geographic and vendor based and opensource software and datasets. S/he must be skilled in writing detailed technical reports/narratives and manuscripts for possible publication in peer-reviewed journals/conferences and designing informative presentations and posters using Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop suite of software as well as other relevant software. S/he must have experience in analyzing and modelling geospatial data, and in using software (QGIS, ArcGIS, ENVI, Cloud-Platforms like Google Earth, AWS etc.) and wherever they fall short have the propensity to learn skills by using the abundantly available learning aids (You tube, tutorials, manuals etc.). The ideal candidate will have superior time management skills and be able to work under pressure and collaborate with other staff at the Center. The position may involve other relevant tasks as assigned by the Director of BGCCCI to whom the candidate will report.
Required Skills:
1. Analytical skills ( Geospatial, Deep and Machine Learning (AI), Vendor based geospatial software and platforms - ENVI, ArcGIS, QGIS, Google, AWS, and Opensource software/s )
2. Report Writing & Presentation ( Technical and Non-Technical using suite of Software including Visio, PPTX, Adobe Photoshop,Office)
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Masters Degree or currently enrolled in a master's degree program in a U.S. University and be enrolled in a computer science/data science/programming/geospatial degree or a relevant program.
Work status: US Citizen/Green Card Holder/Valid Work Visa- mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Masters in Data Science/Computer Science
+ 2+ years of experience
+ Technical skills: Proficiency in Geospatial Analysis & Modelling, Machine Learning, programming, Report Writing & Project Management
+ Soft skills: Communication, Business Acumen, Problem Solving
COMPENSATION
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
Hourly rate: $47/hr
Maximum allowable hours / week: 15hrs. a week
Total available hours: Spring = 225 Fall = 225 Summer =175 Winter = 75
