Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Provides a safe and secure environment on the Weatherford College Campus. Protects the safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors to Weatherford College; guards college property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.

Required Education

High School diploma or G.E. D.

Successful completion of police academy

Required Experience Preferred Education

Associate's degree or higher preferred.

Preferred Experience

Prior law enforcement experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Protects the social and academic environment and preserves the legal rights of individuals by patrolling buildings and grounds of college; examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure; warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels person(s) engaging in suspicious or criminal acts; inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred. Investigates accidents, incidents, and offenses, and prepares appropriate reports. Regulates traffic and parking to maintain orderly flow; enforces campus motor vehicle rules and regulations. Maintains uniforms, equipment, and vehicles.

Watches for and reports irregularities or hazards such as leaking water pipes. Makes sure doors are secured properly. Observes college personnel to guard against theft of company property. Summons outside resources as required during emergencies. Permits authorized persons to access college property. Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for supervisory staff. Proactively builds positive professional relationships with Weatherford College students, faculty, and staff.

All officers of the department will at all times, within jurisdictional limits, prevent crime, preserve the peace, protect life and property, detect and arrest violators of the law and enforce the laws of the United States and the state of Texas and all local ordinances in accordance with the rules, regulations, policies, procedures and orders of the jurisdiction and the department. Officers will be conscience that when they act under the color of the law, that the phrase includes not only laws but also policies, procedures, ordinances, common usage and customs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Subject to pertinent laws, regulations and the orders of the Chief of Police. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Shall be duly sworn and a qualified Peace Officer of the State of Texas and TCOLE certified. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must never have been on court ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense of the grade of Class B misdemeanor or above (or equivalent), within the last ten years. Must not be wanted by any Law Enforcement Agency at the time of application. Must not have been discharged under less than Honorable conditions if the applicant served in the military. Must be of good moral character. Must have stable employment history. Must not have been dismissed, or resigned, while under investigation, from the public service for inefficiency, delinquency, or misconduct. Must not have admitted to the commission of, or ever been convicted of a felony or of any crime involving moral turpitude. Demonstrates a capability for training administration. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of director. Must not have made any false statement or deliberate omission in any material fact, or practiced, or attempted to practice any deception or fraud in his application, examination, or appointment.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw commissions, proportions, percentages and area.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in a mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Mental acuity required.

Satisfactory completion of a Texas accredited Police Academy and the State Certification Examination.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. No illegal drug usage 24 months prior to testing, show no trace of drug dependency after a physical examination, blood test, or other medical test. Any illegal usage beyond 24 months will be evaluated on case-by-case basis. Must have vision correctable to 20/20 and free of color blindness. Must have hearing equivalency of 15-15. Must appear at all scheduled examinations and interviews. Must possess a current, valid Texas driver's license or have the ability to obtain one. Must have a driving record that reflects no more than three moving violations/or preventable accidents, or any combination in the last thirty-six months. Beyond thirty-six months will be considered on a case-by-case base. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must pass a physical and psychological exam.
