Position Summary
The Store Clerk is responsible to the Ketchikan Family Store. Their primary duty is to operate the point of sale system, checking out customers in a timely and courteous fashion. They will help to keep the store clean and neat, performing basic janitorial duties and facing product. They will be expected to put up all sales and marketing signs on the correct days and prior to store opening. They will also assist in the processing of donations. As the face of the store, they will be expected to fulfill the role of a brand ambassador for The Salvation Army. Finally, they are to aid in maintaining a safe, positive, and professional Christian environment for customers and coworkers in support of the values of Jesus Christ and The Salvation Army.
Essential Functions
Maintain a clean and safe work area. Communicating with customers, supervisors, and co-workers. Supervise volunteers in accordance with The Salvation Army policies and procedures. Assist in keeping racks and shelves neat, clean, and orderly. Answer telephone as needed. Use equipment and systems such as a computer, point of sale system, phone, timeclock. Be proficient in Microsoft Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel. (Preferred but not required) Show up on time and be flexible with hours should additional help be needed. Maintain cash register, checking out customers and providing quality customer service. Assist in all cleanups throughout store, sorting, and warehouse areas. Counting money, giving correct change, other basic cash register skills Maintain good morale while speaking with and working around customers. Rack clothing during slow periods of the sales day. Attend trainings as required including but not limited to Protect the Mission - child safety training, CPR certification and The Salvation Army fleet safety training. Be willing to attend all orientation meetings/classes. Make every effort to get along with co-workers not causing friction or rifts in staff. Maintain professional appearance adhering to dress code policies. Other duties as assigned by the Store Manager and/or Corps Officers. Ability to maintain and provide till records Working Conditions
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, run, jump, and twist. Maintain the ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as boxes or furniture, reach overhead, and carry store supplies. Maintain the ability to operate a computer, telephone, and similar technologies. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to learn and adhere to proper lifting techniques, always wearing a back brace when lifting heavy items.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 1 year work experience in any field. (Sales/Retail preferred) Ability to complete any and all assigned trainings. Have the ability to work well independently and in a detailed, professional, and courteous manner. Have the ability to work on a dynamic high performing small team. Be a fast learner and able to keep pace with multiple priorities. Be flexible and open to new ideas, concepts, and ways of doing things. Ability to perform basic math without the use of a calculator or other device. Ability to provide positive customer service. Qualifications Experience 1 years: Minimum retail work experience.
