Position Details Position Information Position Title Part Time Welding - Technical Assistant Position Category Part Time Staff Position StatusFLSA Non-Exempt Advertised Salary $21.22-$23.34 per hour Department Business & STEM Working Hours Days & Times varies General Description SUNY Niagara has a need for a part time Technical Assistant to work in our Welding department within our Business & STEM division. The Technical Assistant will be responsible for providing technical support in the maintenance, repair, and operation / setup of machines and equipment within the Welding lab during class times. The primary focus of this role is ensuring the functionality and safety of welding and machining equipment, as well as assisting students and faculty with their technical needs. The technical assistant will assist the teaching faculty in managing the Technology laboratories, preparation spaces, equipment, tools and storage spaces to ensure function and compliance with safety standards. This position requires someone to have a strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety protocols as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. The rate of pay is based on the level of education the candidate possesses. For a Bachelor's degree or lower the rate of pay will be $21.22 per hour. For a Master's degree or higher the rate of pay will be $23.34 per hour. Typical Work Activities
  • Maintaining and preparing all laboratory spaces, equipment and materials for laboratory classes in Welding.
  • Perform routine maintenance.
  • Assist instructors and students with equipment setup and breakdown, troubleshooting, and usage during lab sessions.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments of technology laboratories and equipment and address potential safety hazards or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff and students on safe laboratory practices and use of equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Essential Functions Must be able to operate computers; must be able to operate laboratory equipment, must be able to relate to a diverse population of students; must be able to relate to faculty, staff, and senior members of the administration; must be able to communicate verbally and in writing; must be able to lift up to 45 lbs., must be able to physically perform the functions of the position. Required Qualifications
  • Associates degree in Welding Technology, Mechanical Technology, Engineering Science or a Welding Certification
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing welding equipment, including MIG, TIG, and stick welders.
  • Familiarity with mechanical tools and equipment commonly used in welding and fabrication.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in industrial Technology, Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field
