Jackson Public Schools is an innovative, urban district committed to excellence that will provide every student a quality education in partnership with parents and the community.About the Teacher Resource Center Support SpecialistReporting to the Director of Library Services, and supervised by the Teacher Resource Center Manager, The Teacher Resource Center Support Specialist will provide technical and clerical support to the Teacher Resource Center and to assist patrons in locating and using equipment, materials, and information. The Teacher Resource Center Support Specialist will assist teachers, administrators, and other patrons in locating materials; provides information, support, and training to district staff in effective use of TRC resources and services.The Parttime Teacher Resource Center Support Specialist is responsible for the following:
- Assists teachers, administrators, and other patrons in locating materials; answers routine questions and provides information; provides training to district staff in effective use of TRC resources and services.
- Assists patrons in developing a variety of classroom educational aids, including bulletin boards and teaching centers; develops educational and promotional handouts and flyers.
- Provides assistance to patrons using the Internet for research and communication.
- Maintains daily circulation records of all TRC materials and their loan status; sends out notices of overdue materials to patrons if necessary.
- Ensures that all TRC equipment, including computers, is functioning correctly; repairs malfunctions or reports to proper repair authority; performs preventive maintenance on all equipment.
- Ensures that the TRC has an adequate supply of all consumable materials that the facility provides to its patrons.
- Organizes, updates, and receives additions to a collection of trade journals, magazines, periodicals, and other publications.
- Answers the telephone; opens all correspondence; directs callers and mail to appropriate staff.
- Assists in maintaining an accurate inventory of all TRC materials; recommends supplementary and replacement materials.
- Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
Key Competencies The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of computerized data processing systems, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, Internet, multimedia, and presentation aids.
- Ability to learn operation techniques and simple maintenance procedures for a variety of equipment
- Knowledge of classroom and educational materials, resources, and activities
- Knowledge of handling invoices and cash transaction
- Ability to handle multiple assignments
- Loyalty and discretion at all times
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Mississippi Teaching License
- One plus successful classroom or related experience
- Additional educational, technical, and clerical training in office procedures or library services strongly preferred
- Satisfactory completion of Office of Human Resources preemployment test requirements
Salary Information:Classification: Part Time Teacher Resource Center Support SpecialistDays Employed: 248 per school year Two workdays and Saturdays per week.
