Job DescriptionPerforms a variety of routine and basic patient- and clerical-related tasks to ensure customer focused services. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.Works under the direct supervision of a House Director, Manager/Nurse Manager, Registered Nurse, or designee who reviews work for effectiveness and conformance to established policies and procedures.Responsibilities
  • Observes and monitors assigned patients in the patient care room or remotely via virtual patient safety observation. Reports relevant observations and changes in patient status to appropriate/responsible registered nurse.
  • Intervenes as necessary to prevent patient from harming self, including but not limited to, preventing patient from pulling at lines and tubes, falling from bed, and inflicting self-harm.
  • Attends to patients' comfort by supplying pillows, blankets, reading materials, games, toys, and sundries. Ensures patient safety and confidentiality by ensuring cleanliness of room, raising and lowering side rails, drawing curtains, and dressing and covering patient.
  • Assists in setting up and feeding patient meals as necessary.
  • Responds to call lights. Attends to patients' basic requests. Alerts appropriate personnel to other situations.
  • Ambulates patients, including but not limited to, ambulating in the halls and to and from the bathroom, as directed by nurse. Escorts patients and visitors to appropriate destinations.
  • Picks up and delivers articles such as specimens, files, records, mail, supplies, linens, and patient requested items in accordance to standard practices and guidelines.
  • Performs routine, non-complex clerical functions such as receiving and sorting letters, files, records, documents and charts; verifying and filing records, documents, forms, and other materials according to established classifications; posting data and compiling standardized reports; and completing forms.
  • Courteously answers telephone and receives callers. Accepts and records requests for various items. Takes, records, and relays messages. Provides limited factual information.
  • Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react competently, and treat (if appropriate) unique needs of patient age groups served.
  • Performs other related duties as required. Utilizes new improvements and/or technologies that relate to job assignment.
  • Maintains BLS certification and in the event of an emergency, alerts help and initiates CPR.
  • Qualifications
  • High school graduate and/or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to accurately report relevant observations and change in patient status.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to organize and maintain records, documents, and forms.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of job.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, visitors, supervisors, co-workers, other Medical Center staff, and the general public.
  • Must obtain BLS certification upon start of position.
