Conduct routine and specialized diagnostic testing for designated section/sections in the laboratory. Utilize standard and/or specialized techniques, as well as use various types of equipment and instrumentation to complete testing. Be responsible for reporting the results of the tests. Apply technical skills and knowledge to facilitate patient care. Provide timely and accurate results.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens under the supervision of a pathologist.
- Prepare tissues for microscopic examination, ensuring accurate specimen accessioning and labeling.
- Assist in autopsies by collecting and preparing tissues, organs, and body fluids for analysis.
- Maintain accurate records of specimen handling, processing, and examination results.
- Perform special procedures such as photography and radiography of specimens as required.
- Assist in the teaching and training of pathology residents and medical students.
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in a biological science; Master's degree in Pathologist Assistant Studies preferred.
- Certification as a Pathologist Assistant (PA) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a pathology laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in gross examination techniques, tissue processing, and laboratory procedures.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and digital pathology platforms.
- Knowledge of quality assurance principles and practices in pathology.
- Participation in continuing education and professional development activities.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000
