Job Responsibilities:
- Assures accurate specimen identification including accessioning, pertinent clinical history, and fixation. Corrects problems as needed.
- Examines and describes (dictate) gross surgical specimens according to accepted protocols noting size, color, consistency, etc.: provide accurate orientation and marking; identify abnormalities; and, dissect and submit appropriate sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of documentation on patient reports. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
- Provides instruction for students as needed.
- Assists in maintaining an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
- Adheres to established policies and procedures regarding safety, environmental and infection control standards, quality assurance, etc. to comply with facility, OSHA and other agency regulations.
- Enhances professional growth and development and corporate compliance through participation in educational programs to maintain state licensure and compliance with all state and federal regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree required. Must meet state and federal requirements for qualification to perform high complexity testing. ASCP certification preferred.LICENSURE: WV Laboratory Practitioner license requiredEXPERIENCE: Experience in anatomical pathology preferred, experience performing surgical gross dissection on complex specimens preferred.Internal applicants must call HR at ext. 11653 to determine eligibility before applying.
