Job Description :
Description Patient Access Specialist is responsible for balancing a variety of duties in a fast-paced environment. They are responsible for greeting and assisting patients by providing exceptional customer service in person and on the phone. Position Responsibilities:
  • Meets with patient and/or patient's caregiver to exchange necessary information and documentation. Provides explanation of visit, instructions, and addresses concerns and questions.
  • Communicates with referring provider's office, clinical department(s), and/or other appropriate personnel to exchange necessary information and determine schedule.
  • Verifies insurance benefits and obtains pre-certification/authorization as necessary.
  • Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers to financial counselors for follow up. Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
  • Schedules, changes, cancels and confirms patient appointments. Reminds patients of appointments if not using the Auto Reminder in Athena.
  • Scans, organizes and uploads all paper documents into an electronic health records.
  • Manages various types of paperwork and other clerical duties as necessary for the department.
  • Copy and file correspondence as needed.
  • Fiduciary Responsibility. The Contact Center Staff is a fiduciary of the organization, and is obligated to act in the best interest and for the benefit of the organization at all times.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years clinic setting required.
  • Completion of a medical terminology course preferred.
  • Experience and/or training in billing and charge entry.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and Spanish preferred.
  • Must possess the ability to integrate respectfully with families and persons from diverse cultures and income levels.
  • Excellence in verbal, written and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematics and analytical comprehension.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work independently on individual and assigned tasks while exhibiting good judgment.
  • Ease of proficiency with various software products.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work efficiently with frequent interruptions.
Summary PRN policy is established to provide additional staff on an as needed or as the situation demands due to unexpected staffing shortage to meet the organizations necessary patient care needs and workload. PRN employees are required to be available to work a minimum of two (2) shifts per month and one (1) holiday per year. Maximum shifts per month will vary based on the employee's regularly scheduled hours per shift.
