QUALIFICATIONSRequired: Typing 50 words per minute; 10-key accuracy; Ability to communicate effectively with the public and your co-workers in a friendly and professional manner; and Third party payor billing experience.Preferred: Computer and general office experience; Proper telephone etiquette; and 2 years or more medical billing and office knowledge.TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDSSedentary-light physical demands, with occasional lifting of 25-40 lbs. Must be able to sit for long periods of time.Requires approximately 6 hours per day keying on a CRT keyboard and looking at an illuminated computer display screen. Stress and pressure associated with meeting daily deadlines.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Actively and willingly works on a Billing Team (Medicare, Welfare, Commercial or Customer Service) to do everything necessary to make the office run smoothly.
- Obtains, prepares and submits claims to all third party payors and client accounts.
- Reviews remittance advice for cost share, allowances, deductibles, co-insurance, and non-covered adjustments.
- Records on the computer system all calls, correspondence, interviews, and activities related to each patient account.
- Reviews aging reports to determine status of accounts.
- Enters data into computer system with accuracy and speed (50 WPM and 10-key calculator skills).
- Responds to billing inquires by contacting appropriate departments for charge entry questions, preparation on Quality Assurance Forms and maintains billing inquiry logs.
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
- Willing and able to learn and perform extra duties as assigned.
