Work Shifts 7:30 A.M - 4:00 P.M Job Description PURPOSE OF POSITION Assist the licensed staff in the delivery of direct patient care including performing vital signs, assisting with monitoring of patients during visiting , meals supervision, rounding , specimen collection , monitoring and observation of patients, searches ,escorting patients to and from procedures and the maintenance of safety on the units AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES Inpatient Psychiatry SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Observes and reports to Charge Nurse on the physical and emotional state of patients on the psychiatric unit or emergency service • Attends interdisciplinary conferences to report observations of patients, interactions and patient's involvement in unit activity • Contributes to the maintenance of a therapeutic milieu through the performance of such duties as conducting groups, such as daily living activity groups, community meetings, and special interest groups. • Encourages and monitor patient participation in the activity program scheduled for him/her • Assist patients with ADLs • Prepares patients for examination by the physician and/or nurse • Monitor patients closely, on their medical and psychiatric condition observing and reporting on patients condition and changes in condition, • Assists with application of restraints and monitoring of patients in restraints/ seclusion under the direction of the nurse in charge and/ or physician in charge • Assist in maintaining a safe patient care unit through such activities monitoring visitors, patient rounds, monitoring patients during meals and recreation, admission security activities, environmental rounds, patient search, clothing and valuable procurement. • Able to push, pull or carry five (5) pounds or more. • Collect specimens ensure properly labeled and transport to the lab • Escorts patients when assigned for medical procedures, diagnostic testing, and accompanies patients for court appearances and to agencies /appointments outside the hospital and/or off the unit. • Monitor patients on routine, constant, and close observation. • Monitor psychiatric inpatient areas with respect to patient activities in patient rooms, dayroom, dining room, activity/therapy room, patio and other areas on the unit. • Able to perform CPR and assist with performing basic first aid • Maintain cleanliness and check for safety of equipment and supplies for patient care, treatment rooms, and supplies • Maintains clinical competence by attending continuing education program • Reports all incidents immediately to RN, Charge Nurse, Head Nurse, and Supervisor • Arrives and leaves patient area at designated time • Completes assignment in allotted time • Maintains a clean, neat, professional appearance, by wearing uniform attire as delineated in the hospital/psychiatry dress code policy • Performs related functions as assigned by the Head Nurse/Designee Minimum Qualifications 1. High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and 2. Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director; and 3. Completion of a health care setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation. Special Note: In addition to meeting the qualifications above, assignment to a long-term care facility requires a New York State Nurse's Aide Certificate.
