Work Shifts 1530-2400 Job Description PURPOSE OF POSITION Provides support for RN's providing critical care and continuous observation for a diverse population with various medical and surgical diagnoses. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES Emergency Department SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. In addition to MST/NA and PCT responsibilities 2. Performs EKGs on patients. 3. Assists with setting up patient's room. 4. Takes and records vital signs. 5. Prepares patient for examination. 6. Assists patients, MD and nurse. 7. Performs Point of Care tests as appropriate 8. Checks specimens for proper labeling and transportation to lab. 9. Post mortem care. 10. Checks temperature and medication specimen and nourishment refrigerators daily and reports findings. 11. Maintain instruments and equipment and transports them when necessary. 12. Transports/escorts patients when assigned. 13. Replenish treatment rooms. 14. Assist with simple dressings. 15. Performs phlebotomy duty. 16. Test glucometer machine every shift 17. Gather, label and secure patient clothing as directed. 18. Reports observations of patients and family condition to a professional registered nurse. 19. Maintains clinical competence by attending continuing education programs. 20. Report critical incidents immediately within 15 minutes of occurrence to registered nurse, 21. Arrives and leaves patient area at designated time. 22. Completes assignment in allotted time. 23. Performs related functions as assigned by the head nurse/designee. Minimum Qualifications 1. High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and 2. Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director; and 3. Completion of a health care setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation. Special Note: In addition to meeting the qualifications above, assignment to a long-term care facility requires a New York State Nurse's Aide Certificate.
