SUMMARYThe Patient Registrar provides patients, immediate family members, and friends with a positive and memorable experience towards their next step in recovery. This position collects and registers demographic and insurance information into our medical record software program and scans documents into the patient's chart. The Patient Registration Department is largely responsible for maintaining a holistic environment that contributes to our patient's safety and success.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures that a welcoming, safe and healing environment is maintained for each patient and family throughout the admissions process.
- Deliver excellent customer service.
- Ability to deescalate a person in crisis in a calm and supportive manner, work calmly and professionally in stressful situations and ally with people in crisis.
- Explain HIPAA rights and garner patient's acknowledgement of HIPPA notification form.
- Copy patient's insurance cards and copy photo identification.
- Obtain release to communicate with third party payers and file insurance.
- Explain admission consent to treat forms and collect required signatures.
- Obtain and explain release for personal property search.
- Using established guidelines, obtain releases for families, referral sources clinicians and other related persons in compliance with 42 CFR.
- Review demographic and insurance information with patients to ensure accuracy.
- Audit electronic medical record demographic information to ensure loaded correctly.
- Distribute demographic, insurance and release information to internal customers.
- Scan patient data including insurance, demographics, and releases into patient record.
- Basic verification of patient benefits.
- Generating accounts in patient billing software.
- Managing daily residential census in patient billing software.
- Recommends ways to improve the quality and delivery of services.
- Maintains confidentiality of company and patient information.
- Maintains cleanliness of work areas and patient waiting areas.
- Reacts productively to change.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNoneRequirementsJOB SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- CPRS certification is preferred but not required.
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft (Outlook, Work and Excel)
- Ability to problem-solve, analyze, and interpret information.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and patient needs in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to be open and culturally sensitive to a wide variety of patients' experiences.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively speak, read and write in English.
- Ability to interact with co-workers in a collaborative and courteous manner while providing guidance, instruction, and training.
- If recovering, one year of verifiable abstinence required with two years preferred; active participation in a twelve-step program preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Position is in an office setting that involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions.
- Position requires frequent contact with people in crisis, including those who are emotionally volatile and may require additional safety precautions.
- May perform CPR/First Aid as needed (being certified or eligible is required)
- Position is subject to varying shifts, including weekends.
- Ability to lift and/or push pull up to 20 lbs.; move around campus on uneven and rural terrain.
