Job Location: St. Anthony Regional Hospital, 311 South Clark St, PO Box 628, Carroll, IA, 51401Department: Patient RegistrationEmployment Type: Full-TimeJob DescriptionDays/Evenings/NightsJob SummaryThe Patient Registration Clerk assists patients during the admissions process, gathers required patient information, and coordinates with nurses and other employees to ensure patients complete the proper paperwork. This position assists with patient scheduling and provides effective customer service for all facilities, patients, and visitors.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesGreet, register, instruct and provide general assistance to patients while providing superior customer service and respect to patients and families.Handle telephone calls in a timely manner, connecting caller to appropriate floor or department; page individuals as needed. Ensure information taken is accurate and kept confidential. Maintain the physician Preference Call Sheet and the daily On Call List.Admit inpatients and outpatients by preparing admitting form and ID bracelet. Appropriately band all patients meeting the banding criteria. Transfer patients to treatment destination. Obtain appropriate signatures and insurance information and distribute Hospital packet to patient. Ensure accuracy of all demographics.Effectively verify and communicate to patients and their family insurance eligibility, filing, collections, and payment responsibilities.Respond to emergency situations quickly and appropriately by identifying and responding to alarms and codes, making necessary announcements, and contacting appropriate personnel. Supervise in-house emergency alarms for local and state emergencies.Respond to emergency situations such as ambulance calls and patients arriving by car by alerting the appropriate personnel as ordered by the supervisor.Verify the daily hospital census statistics for accuracy. Retrieve online patient communications and forward to the patients.Assist with accurate preparation of charges, sorting, and processing in a timely manner.Assist patients in making new medical appointments and changes or cancellations as necessary.Work willingly and accept assignments as given.Attend all mandatory meetings and programs.Participate in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.Comply with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agree to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.Comply with all applicable state and federal regulations and JCAHO standards.Maintain a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions, and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.Maintain the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee, and organizational information.Supervision ResponsibilitiesThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
