Under the direct supervision of the Director, you will serve as a liaison between patients and their families/significant others and the Emergency Care Unit. In this role, you will ensure unmet needs are addressed by referring complaints and requests to the Nurse Manager/designee of the ED and Patient Advocate. As a part of this team, you will have the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of patients and the community every day. A caregiver in this position works days from 9:00AM - 5:30PM. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Greet all patients and their family members upon arrival in the Emergency Room. Make frequent and routine visits to the family during the time the patient is being treated in the Emergency Care Unit, providing information regarding condition of patient and/or progress of treatment. Provide emotional support to patients and anxious family members. Visit Emergency Care Unit patients and assist to the extent required (e.g., explanations of delay in service, extended wait for room assignment, etc.). In cases of sudden death or serious injury, work closely with physicians, nursing staff and social worker to assist family. Introduce family to Nurse Manager or patient's nurse, orient family to critical care unit and explain visiting rules and visiting hours. Provide a special sense of care to any elderly, mentally or physically handicapped person who is without a family member, significant other or community assigned advocate or ombudsman. Provide a centralized and consistent mechanism for patients and or family members/significant others to voice complaints and ensure timely response. Terminate services when family is able to function alone or when family refuses services offered. Complete mandatory education and training to maintain applicable certification/licensure. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Associate's Degree OR experience as a Patient Representative Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Bachelor's Degree Experience in people-oriented work or activities Our caregivers continue to create the best outcomes for our patients across each of our facilities.
