Job Description:

Description: The Patient Safety Assistant (PSA) assists in providing a safe environment for patients with identified risks and reduce potential for injury to themselves or others. This PSA will perform functions to enable compliance with JPS Health Network policies and procedures, and Joint Commission accreditation standards.

Typical Duties:

  • Observes and monitors patients identified to be at risk for self-injury, fall, and/or otherwise behaviorally impaired.
  • Notifies the patients nurse when patient displays actions or behaviors suggesting the patient will cause harm to themselves or others or when the patient is unable to utilize the call light and is requesting assistance.
  • Attends to patients activities of daily living and will obtain and report vital signs and intake and output to the primary nurse.
  • Documents patient behavior according to District policy 910-032 during their assigned shift using all required forms or reporting systems as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:
      Required Education and Experience:
    • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
    • Approved Patient Safe Handling Course within 90 days of hire.
    • Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
    • Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment..
