Under the supervision of a nurse, the Patient Safety Attendant provides continuous observation and monitoring for high-risk patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains direct line of sight with patient at all times, including while family and/or visitors are in the room.
- Accompanies patient and ensures patient safety during transportation, testing and procedures occurring away from the patient's normal environment.
- Demonstrates caring and empathy in interactions. Treats all patients with courtesy and respect.
- Monitors patient physical and emotional condition and communicates any changes in status to nursing staff.
- Ensures the patient environment is free of obstacles and minimizes risk of falls and accidental or intentional self-harm.
- Seeks immediate assistance for escalating incidents.
- Creates clear, accurate documentation on patient status and activity.
- May assist with basic activities of daily living.
- May perform light cleaning of patient room.
- May assist with serving and collecting food trays.
- Protects patient confidentiality in accordance with all privacy and HIPAA laws.
- Demonstrates clear ownership of workplace and patient safety.
- Reports mistakes, near misses, adverse events and quality and safety concerns.
- Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activities.
- Must demonstrate ability to don and doff Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma/GED required.
Licensure/Certification: N/A.
Experience: 1 year patient care experience preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements: Frequent sitting and occasional standing and walking. Occasionally lift 10 pounds. Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching.
