Job Summary: The Patient Transport Dispatcher monitors EPIC Grand Central Dashboard to ensure patient transports and discharges are performed in a timely manner according to departmental goals, productivity metrics, and priorities. This role provides input regarding Patient Transport productivity to the supervisor and will assist with employee training.

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 2 months of hire.

Work Experience: Minimum 6 months of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication/comprehension skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner. Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information and hospital sensitive information. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to greet and acknowledge patients and customers in a friendly, professional manner.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Monitors the dispatch function of the central dispatch computer system and communicates transport delays or concerns. Communicates with patient care staff regarding transport, discharges, and equipment needs. Monitors employee breaks and productivity to ensure departmental compliance. Conducts patient and equipment transports, assists with evaluating equipment needs, repairs and cleaning. Assists in lifting, turning, and transferring patients to/from bed, chairs, stretchers, or other personal or commercial motor vehicles. Cleans transport equipment as required, including changing linens, and reports any equipment malfunctions to supervisor or manager. Manages and supervises departmental functions such as staffing strategies and interdepartmental relationships and collaboration. Utilizes EPIC Grand Central Dashboard to navigate the operations of the valet department. Assists with stretcher and wheelchair audits.

Decision Making: Independent judgement in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited, and standard policies/protocols have been stablished.

Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
