The position will transport patients between patient care areas by wheelchair, gurney, and bed within the main hospital. - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Certification or UC Davis Health CPR within 3 months of hire
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience
- Two (2) years of Customer Service experience
- Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to exhibit a professional demeanor by following standards established for dress and conduct.
- Ability and skill to safely operate wheelchairs, gurneys, electric beds, cribs, and specialty beds.
- Knowledge of proper body mechanics and patient transfer techniques, and skill to transport patients without injury to self, patient, or others.
- Knowledge of and ability to follow appropriate infection control techniques to safeguard other patients and visitors from infected patients.
- Basic knowledge of CPR, 02, IV's/pumps, feeding tubes/pumps, foley bags, and chest tubes.
- Ability to recognize problems with life support equipment or a sudden change in a patient's condition, and to report it to a licensed care provider.
- Ability to maintain composure, respond calmly, and use sound judgment should a medical emergency occur during a patient transport.
- Ability to deal effectively and kindly with patients who may be confused, upset, incoherent, and/or aggressive.
- Interpersonal skills to deal in a tactful, courteous, pleasant, and professional manner with patients, visitors, and other hospital staff, which includes individuals with various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to perceive and read sensitively to the needs and actions of others.
- Ability and skill to answer a multi-line telephone courteously, often handling several incoming calls simultaneously, and quickly, accurately, and legibly record service requests.
- Ability to instruct student trainees, volunteers, and new employees in patient transfer techniques and other patient transport duties.
