Description Physically transport patients to and from the various departments within the hospital. Transport patients effectively via wheelchair, bed and stretcher. Assist with transferring patients from e.g. bed to stretcher. Handle medical equipment safely such as IV pumps/poles, oxygen tanks, chest tubes, catheters, while transporting patients. Maintain positive and professional relationships with patients. Follow proper dress codes and adhere to departmental policies and procedures. Follow safety precautions and infection control techniques. Adhere to established standards to transport isolation patients. Perform first aid and CPR during emergency situations. Utilize 2-way radio phone for communication purposes. Ensure that transport equipment is in good working conditions and notify management of any repairs and maintenance. Assist in lifting patients. Keep 02 tanks filled and maintain equipment. Respond to hospital disasters and emergencies. Keep CPR card current. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transport patients to and from the nursing units and Emergency Department.
- Assist the nurse/techs in lifting and moving patients.
- Keep all 02 tanks filled and stored in the designated room.
- Be familiar with the departmental emergency codes.
- Ensure that the necessary supplies are available to properly perform assigned tasks.
- Remain in designated area when not transporting so patients can be transported promptly.
- Always display a professional image .
- Assist in the training of new transporters.
- Exhibit good communication skills.
- Assist other transporters when necessary
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- Log patients in and out of department. Communicate with Unit Secretary or Charge nurse before taking patient off unit and inform Unit Secretary or Charge Nurse when patient is returned. If there is a delay with patient communicate with department e.g. radiology etc. Provide generic communication for the department.

Requirements
- At least one-year hospital experience preferred. Training is provided.
- CPR Certified
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Knowledge of Hospital functions, good grammar.
- Must be able to perform all outline duties and responsibilities independently.
- Good communication skills and excellent patient relations.
- Work under stress, accept a change, and follow directions independently. Must have knowledge of Body Mechanics and Basic CPR training for the physical stamina required for handling patients. Lifting, standing and walking.
