Job Summary: Under the direction of the Director, Manager, Supervisor, Dispatcher, and/or Transport Leads, performs a variety of tasks including but not limited to:
  • Transporting patients from department to department and to and from diagnostic procedures
  • Escorting patients after discharge, if needed
  • Assisting in the deposition of patients to mortuary
  • Moving, lifting, and positioning patients
  • Maintaining, cleaning, and preparing equipment including but not limited to gurneys, wheelchairs, isolletes, bassinets, cribs, and supplies required to perform tasks
  • Assembling frame and trapeze on patient beds for transfers
  • Assisting with delivery of equipment, if time allows
  • Returning pages/phone calls in a timely manner
  • Meeting the productivity measures and benchmarks set by the Hospital
  • Performing related duties as assigned and/or requested for all transport needs
Experience/Qualifications:
  • Previous transportation of patients preferred, but not required
Education:
  • High school equivalent or comparable experience preferred
Licensure/Certifications:
  • Current BLS card.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain LA County Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employment
Duties and Responsibilities: PATIENT CARE RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Being flexible to changing systems
  • Transports patients, which include neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients, to and from diagnostic procedures (Radiology, Ultrasound, CAT Scan, Radiation Therapy and G.I. Lab) and from clinical unit to clinical unit.
  • Is knowledgeable in transferring safely all types of patients, from neonates to geriatrics, critical to non-critical, including equipment such as I.V. pumps, traction, cardiac monitors, oxygen tanks, etc.
  • Maintains full and functioning oxygen tanks for use during transportation of patients.
  • Cross-trains to perform all types of transports including but not limited to house, radiology, and perioperative transports
  • Maintains on-going, clear communication to patients and staff.
  • Functions as a resource to visitors, physicians and staff, greeting them promptly and courteously with eye contact and a pleasant expression and tone of voice. DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains gurneys, wheelchairs, and information technology clean and in good working order
  • Delivers STAT requisitions
  • Communicates to the Supervisor any needs for operational maintenance or repair of equipment.
  • Retrieves and delivers equipment needed for patient care
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-services and attends all mandatory classes and meetings
  • Maintains neat, organized and safe environment for patients and staff
  • Collaborates by working with others to achieve unit and organizational goals SERVICE EXCELLENCE:
  • Interacts well with co-workers, physicians, guests, patients and significant others.
  • Demonstrates tact, diplomacy and sensitivity in communications.
  • Participates and assists in Quality Improvement activities as assigned.
  • Responds promptly to request, problems, and questions from physicians, staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Exhibits appropriate phone protocol (answers phone calls promptly) and is courteous and helpful.
  • Contributes to the team effort, offers constructive suggestions rather than complaints.
  • Maintains hospital/department/work area in a neat, clean and orderly manner.
  • Promotes a positive work environment as evidenced by:
    • Demonstrates a professional, supportive attitude for the department staff
    • Being receptive and responsive to new ideas

Demonstrates knowledge of and follows safety practices. Understands the importance of safety, including patient safety in the work place. Maintains a safe environment for self and others. Actively participates in the Patient Safety Program, including event reporting. Identifies sentinel events/near misses and responds per defined organization processes. Participates in education activities and process implementation. Demonstrates advocacy for the patient/customer and appropriately acknowledges patients, customers and visitors.
