ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The most important and essential job duty of this position is attitude andincludes the following: getting along with co-workers, being respectful to members of the community, making sure all employees under his/her command are working together as a team and functioning under pressure. Other duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Respond to and handles complaints from citizens
- Assist in the investigations of crimes within their realm of training, expertise and time constraints
- Makes arrests and books arrested persons
- Investigates traffic accidents
- Responds to, assists, and handles emergency situations including: natural, industrial, vehicular, marine, aircraft, medical and agricultural
- Prepares and completes investigative reports and documents relative to complaints, investigations and arrests
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Knowledgeable of all federal, state and local laws pertaining to law enforcement
- Knowledgeable of St. Martin Parish geography and roadways
- Knowledgeable of all radio and signal codes
- Proficient in both routine and pursuit driving of patrol vehicles
- Working knowledge of computer programs
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Graduation from an approved P.O. S.T. Academy (Basic Law Enforcement Academy)
WORK SCHEDULE:
- 12 hour shifts - Alternating
- Employee is required to work flexible hours when and if needed. In some circumstances employee may be subject to call-out 24 hours a day.
