Position Overview:
Analyzes, prepares, and inputs payroll data. Processes and reconciles insurance, tax, and other payroll-related expenses. Typically uses an automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll. Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws and relevant grant requirements. The Payroll Accountant will prepare billing invoices for services rendered or for the delivery or shipment of goods.
Essential Duties:
* Maintain accurate records and supporting materials for payroll and related activities.
* Must maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws and grant regulations as applicable to payroll functions.
* Performs various journal entries, and account reconciliations, and provides General Ledger support.
* Ensures accuracy of data within payroll system of payroll system process. Organize and track all payroll-related transactions, including coding timesheets to appropriate funds; Personal Time Off (PTO) accruals and changes, and insurance and tax transactions.
* Verify and process employee and student timesheets, wage computations, work charts, and other information to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies.
* Update pension accrued or paid for individuals on a monthly basis to ensure the accuracy of balances.
* Update vacation, compensation time, sick leave taken or accrued, monthly and year-to-date.
* Process check requests, garnishments and tax payments, and other deductions; ensuring all appropriate approvals have been received.
* Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, franchisees, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
* Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
* Compute wages and deductions and enter data into computers.
* Record employee information, such as exemptions, transfers, and resignations, to maintain and update payroll records.
* Process and issue employee and participant paychecks and statements of earnings and deductions.
* Keep track of leave time, such as vacation, personal, and sick leave, for employees.
* Compile employee time, production, and payroll data from time sheets and other records and convert to payroll system coding for accurate input into the payroll system.
* Confirm receipt and proper completion of timecards each pay period.
* Issue and record adjustments to pay related to previous errors or retroactive pay adjustments.
* Ensure all payroll-related activities and transactions are supported by proper documentation per regulatory requirements.
* May fill in for other members of the Fiscal Department as needed to provide support during times of peak workload or temporary absences.
* Process and issue monthly, quarterly, and yearly required federal and state reports
* Prepare accounts payable vouchers for any payroll-related transactions.
* Prepare annual employee retirement plan census reports.
* Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications: BA degree in Accounting or Finance and two years experience in mid-level accounting positions. OR AA Degree in accounting and 1-year payroll experience. Additional accounting classes and training are desirable.
